Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday carried out a significant reshuffle of senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, transferring several officials to key positions in intelligence, CID, and Special Branch units across the state.

The transfers and postings, which take effect immediately, were notified by the Home (SC) Department through an order signed by Additional Chief Secretary K. Manivasan.

The reshuffle is aimed at strengthening internal security, intelligence coordination, and the functioning of specialised investigative wings in Tamil Nadu.

Senior DIG-Level Postings in Intelligence Wing

G. Dharmarajan Posted as DIG, Intelligence (Security)

Dr G. Dharmarajan, who was serving as DIG of Police, Vellore Range, has been appointed as Deputy Inspector General of Police, Intelligence (Security), Chennai.

Pakerla Cephas Kalyan Named DIG, Intelligence (Internal Security)

Pakerla Cephas Kalyan, formerly Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), South Zone, Greater Chennai Police, has been posted as DIG, Intelligence (Internal Security), Chennai.

P. Saravanan Transferred to CID Intelligence

P. Saravanan, who was serving as DIG, Tirunelveli Range, has been appointed as DIG, CID Intelligence, Chennai.

Garad Karun Uddhavrao to Head Organised Crime Intelligence Unit

Garad Karun Uddhavrao, Superintendent of Police, Tiruvallur district, has been posted as SP, Organised Crime Intelligence Unit, Chennai.

A. Myilvaganan Posted to Special Branch CID

A. Myilvaganan, SP of Tenkasi district, has been appointed as SP-I, Special Branch CID, Chennai.

C. Madhan Moved to Security Branch CID

Dr C. Madhan, Superintendent of Police, Thoothukudi district, has been transferred as SP-I, Security Branch CID, Chennai.

K. Shanmugam Gets New Special Branch Role

K. Shanmugam, previously SP of ‘Q’ Branch CID, Chennai, has been appointed as SP-II, Special Branch CID, Chennai.

G. S. Madhavan Posted to Security Branch CID

G. S. Madhavan, SP, Metro Zone, Crime Branch CID, Chennai, has been posted as SP-II, Security Branch CID, Chennai.

N. Silambarasan Assigned to Special Division

N. Silambarasan, SP and Assistant Inspector General of Police (Law and Order), Chennai, has been appointed as SP, Special Division, Special Branch CID, Chennai.

Focus on Internal Security and Intelligence Coordination

Officials said the extensive reshuffle is intended to reinforce Tamil Nadu’s intelligence and security architecture by placing experienced officers in strategic positions overseeing internal security, organised crime, and special investigations.

The transfers assume significance as the state government seeks to enhance coordination among intelligence agencies and improve operational efficiency in sensitive policing units.
