Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has ordered a major transfer and posting exercise involving 13 IPS officers across the state. The orders, issued on September 29, 2026, include changes in key police assignments in Salem and Greater Chennai, besides postings in intelligence, recruitment, CB-CID, vigilance, economic offences and other wings.
One of the key changes is the appointment of AG Babu (IPS:2004:TN) as the new Commissioner of Police, Salem City. He will take over from K Joshi Nirmal Kumar (IPS:2002:TN), who has been transferred as Inspector General of Police, Modernisation, in the office of the Director General of Police and Head of Police Force, Chennai.
The reshuffle also involves movement of officers between the Greater Chennai Police and Salem, along with changes in several specialised police units.
AG Babu Appointed Salem City Police Commissioner
AG Babu (IPS:2004:TN), who was serving as Inspector General of Police/Additional Commissioner of Police, Headquarters, Greater Chennai Police, Chennai, has been transferred and posted as Commissioner of Police, Salem City.
His appointment places a 2004-batch officer at the helm of the Salem City Police.
Babu will succeed K Joshi Nirmal Kumar, who has been moved to the Modernisation wing at the DGP’s office in Chennai.
K Joshi Nirmal Kumar Moves to Modernisation
K Joshi Nirmal Kumar (IPS:2002:TN), who was serving as Commissioner of Police, Salem City, has been transferred and posted as Inspector General of Police, Modernisation, in the office of the Director General of Police and Head of Police Force, Chennai.
The transfer marks a move from a city police commissionerate assignment to a senior-level role dealing with police modernisation.
Santosh Hadimani Moves to Chennai Intelligence
Dr Santosh Hadimani (IPS:2011:TN) has also been transferred from Salem.
He was serving as Deputy Inspector General of Police, Salem Range, Salem, and has now been posted as Deputy Inspector General of Police/Joint Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Section, Greater Chennai Police, Chennai.
His move brings him into a key intelligence-related assignment within the Greater Chennai Police.
N Devarani Gets Salem Range
N Devarani (IPS:2010:TN), who was serving as Deputy Inspector General of Police/Deputy Director, Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Chennai, has been transferred and posted as Deputy Inspector General of Police, Salem Range, Salem.
She will take over the Salem Range assignment following the transfer of Dr Santosh Hadimani to Chennai.
V Badri Narayanan Moves to Adyar
V Badri Narayanan (IPS:2015:TN) has been transferred from the Anti-Terrorism Squad in Coimbatore to Greater Chennai Police.
Narayanan was serving as Superintendent of Police, Anti-Terrorism Squad, Coimbatore, and has now been posted as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Adyar, Greater Chennai Police, Chennai.
AC Karthikeyan Posted to Uniformed Services Recruitment Board
AC Karthikeyan (IPS), who was under compulsory wait, has been posted as Superintendent of Police, Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board, Chennai.
He will now take charge of the police recruitment-related assignment in Chennai.
N Mathivanan and VR Srinivasan Exchange Posts
The reshuffle also brings changes involving the NIB-CID and St. Thomas Mount assignments.
N Mathivanan (IPS), who was serving as Superintendent of Police, NIB CID, Chennai, has been transferred and posted as Deputy Commissioner of Police, St. Thomas Mount, Greater Chennai Police.
Meanwhile, VR Srinivasan (IPS), who was serving as Deputy Commissioner of Police, St. Thomas Mount, Greater Chennai Police, Chennai, has been transferred and posted as Superintendent of Police, NIB CID, Chennai.
The two changes effectively move Mathivanan to St. Thomas Mount and Srinivasan to the NIB CID.
K Stalin Moves to South Zone CB-CID
K Stalin (IPS), who was serving as Superintendent of Police, Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board, Chennai, has been transferred and posted as Superintendent of Police, South Zone, CB-CID, Chennai.
His transfer follows the posting of AC Karthikeyan to the Uniformed Services Recruitment Board.
P Sundaravadivel Gets Welfare & Estate
P Sundaravadivel (IPS), who was serving as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Security, Greater Chennai Police, Chennai, has been transferred and posted as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Welfare & Estate, Greater Chennai Police, Chennai.
The posting moves him from the Security wing to the Welfare & Estate assignment within the Greater Chennai Police.
Salem North and Washermenpet Posts Also Changed
Another transfer involves the Salem North and Washermenpet assignments.
Dr V Baskaran (IPS), who was serving as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Washermenpet, Greater Chennai Police, has been transferred and posted as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Salem North, Salem.
In a corresponding move, Ankit Singh (IPS:2022:TN), who was serving as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Salem North, Salem, has been transferred and posted as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Washermenpet, Greater Chennai Police, Chennai.
Thus, the reshuffle results in a direct exchange of the two assignments between Baskaran and Ankit Singh.
Dr R Stalin Gets Economic Offences Wing
Dr R Stalin (IPS:2020:TN), who was under compulsory wait, has also received a new posting.
He has been transferred and posted as Superintendent of Police, Economic Offences Wing, North Zone, Chennai.
The posting brings him into the Economic Offences Wing following the period when he was on compulsory wait.
