Hyderabad: In a major administrative move, the Telangana government on Saturday reshuffled 20 police officers, including 15 IPS officers, most of whom are of the Superintendent of Police (SP) rank. The reshuffle comes in the wake of the reorganisation of the tri-commissionerates, with a key focus on strengthening traffic policing across all four commissionerates in Hyderabad and surrounding areas.

The transfers and postings were ordered with immediate effect.

Senior IPS Officers Get New Roles

As per the transfer order, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Gajarao Bhupal has been transferred and posted as Inspector General of Police (Provisioning & Logistics).

2011-batch IPS officer Abhishek Mohanty, who was serving as Deputy Inspector General of Police in EAGLE, has been transferred and posted as DIG (Vigilance & Enforcement).

Counter Intelligence SP R. Bhaskaran has been promoted to the DIG rank and retained in the Counter Intelligence (CI) Cell, marking a key elevation within the intelligence setup.

Key Changes in Commissionerates and Intelligence Wing

B. Bala Swamy, former DCP (East Zone), has been posted as SP (Vigilance & Enforcement).

Officers Reposted to CID and Crime Wings

R. Venkateshwarlu, former DCP (Traffic-III), has been transferred and posted as SP (CID). He earlier served in both traffic and CID wings and now returns to CID.

DCP (South-East) S. Chaitanya Kumar, who was on medical leave for nearly two months, has been transferred and posted as DCP (Crimes), Hyderabad Commissionerate. During his earlier tenure, he had drawn attention after opening fire on two property offenders.

Major Overhaul of Traffic Policing Across Zones

In a move aimed at improving traffic management following the restructuring, several traffic DCP positions have been reassigned:

  • Avinash Kumar, Additional SP (Operations), Bhadradri-Kothagudem, posted as DCP (Traffic-I), Hyderabad, covering Khairatabad and Secunderabad.
  • Additional SP Kajal (Utnoor) posted as DCP (Traffic-II), handling Golconda and Jubilee Hills.

Vigilance & Enforcement Posting

Additional SP (Vigilance & Enforcement) A. Balakoti has been directed to report to the office of the Director General of Police (DGP).

Focus on Traffic and Administrative Efficiency

The large-scale reshuffle reflects the government’s emphasis on traffic management, administrative efficiency, and better policing coordination following the expansion and reorganisation of Hyderabad’s policing structure. Strengthening traffic wings across commissionerates is expected to address congestion, enforcement challenges, and urban mobility concerns in the fast-growing metropolitan region.
