Hyderabad: In a significant administrative move, the Telangana government has promoted six senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers from the 1995 and 1996 batches to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP).
Among those elevated is V C Sajjanar, currently serving as the Hyderabad Police Commissioner.
Officers Promoted to DGP Rank
According to orders issued by the General Administration (Services) Department on April 22, the following officers have been promoted to the DGP rank (Higher Administrative Grade Plus – HAG+):

- V V Srinivasa Rao (Veerisetty Venkata Srinivasa Rao)
- Swati Lakra
- Mahesh Bhagwat (Mahesh Muralidhar Bhagwat)
1996 Batch
- Charu Sinha
- Anil Kumar (Dr Anil Kumar)
- V C Sajjanar
Promotion in-Situ Under HAG+ Grade
The officers have been promoted to the DGP rank in the Higher Administrative Grade Plus (HAG+) and will continue to serve in their existing posts on an in-situ basis.
This form of promotion allows officers to retain their current assignments while receiving the rank and benefits of the higher position.
Based on DGP Recommendations
The promotions follow recommendations made by the Telangana Director General of Police through official communications dated October 17, 2024, and August 30, 2025.
The empanelment reflects the standard career progression of senior IPS officers approaching the apex level of service.
Order Issued in Governor’s Name
The order was issued in the name of the Governor of Telangana and signed by Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao.
Copies of the order have been forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs and other concerned departments for necessary action and record.
Significance of the Move
The elevation of these officers to the DGP rank is expected to strengthen leadership within the Telangana Police and enhance administrative efficiency at the senior-most level.
