Service Is Free for Six Months
The free email update facility became effective on 1 July 2026. UIDAI has confirmed that users can use this service without paying any fee for six months, encouraging more people to keep their Aadhaar information updated.
Free Aadhaar Email Update: More Than 2.5 Lakh Updates in Two Days
The response to the new feature has been strong. According to UIDAI, over 2.5 lakh email IDs were added or updated within the first two days of the service becoming available. This shows that many Aadhaar holders are choosing digital services instead of visiting physical centres.
Why Linking Email with Aadhaar Is Important
Adding an email ID to Aadhaar helps users receive real-time email notifications whenever their Aadhaar authentication is used. This improves transparency and gives users an extra layer of security by helping them monitor the use of their Aadhaar number.
Aadhaar App Offers More Digital Services
The Aadhaar App is designed to provide multiple services directly from a smartphone. Apart from email updates, users can also update their mobile number and address using the app. According to UIDAI, more than 40 lakh people have already updated their mobile numbers, while around 10 lakh users have updated their addresses through the app.
Available on Android and iPhone
UIDAI has asked residents to download or update the official Aadhaar App to use the new feature. The app is available on both Android and Apple iOS, allowing users across India to access Aadhaar services from their smartphones.
