New Delhi: Electric Mobility in India received a major push as Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav addressed ASSOCHAM’s National Conference on “Electric Mobility: Building India an Electric Mobility Hub for Viksit Bharat” in New Delhi. He said India’s EV transition should focus on green growth, strong infrastructure, transparent governance and a circular economy to achieve long-term environmental sustainability and support the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

Speaking at the conference, Bhupender Yadav said that India’s shift to electric mobility is not only about replacing petrol and diesel vehicles with electric ones. Bhupender Yadav said the Government has introduced several reforms to improve the ease of doing business while protecting the environment. These include:
- Faster environmental clearances
- Digital approvals through the PARIVESH Portal
- Simpler compliance rules
- Faster investment approvals without weakening environmental safeguards
Strong Charging Network and Local Manufacturing Needed
The conference highlighted that India needs continued policy support to become a global EV manufacturing hub. Key priorities discussed included:
- Expanding EV charging infrastructure
- Localising advanced manufacturing
- Building resilient battery supply chains
- Securing critical minerals
- Promoting battery recycling
- Increasing financing support
- Encouraging technological innovation

The Minister urged policymakers, industries and institutions to work together to build an innovation-driven electric mobility ecosystem. He said ecology and economy should grow together and India has the potential to become a global leader in sustainable manufacturing, clean mobility and climate-conscious development.
