Yogi Government Announces Three New Cities in Uttar Pradesh to Ease Urban Pressure and Boost Growth
Indian Masterminds Stories

Lucknow: In a major push towards planned urbanization and balanced regional development, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has approved the establishment of three new cities in Agra, Bareilly, and Prayagraj. The decision, taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, aims to manage rising urban population pressure and promote modern, sustainable city development across the state.

The government has also released the first installment of ₹225 crore for the ambitious project, marking the initial phase of planning and infrastructure development.

Focus on Planned Urban Growth and Modern Infrastructure

According to official sources, the proposed new cities will be developed with modern infrastructure and advanced civic amenities. The initiative is designed to reduce pressure on existing urban centres while ensuring systematic expansion of urban spaces.

Agra, Bareilly, and Prayagraj—already key hubs for tourism, industry, education, and religious activities—have been selected due to their strategic importance and rapid urban growth. The new urban zones are expected to support economic expansion while improving living standards through better planning and infrastructure.

Officials said the project will include planned residential zones, commercial spaces, transport connectivity systems, green areas, and essential public services.

Economic Growth and Employment Generation Expected

The Uttar Pradesh government believes that the creation of new cities will significantly boost local economic activity. The initiative is expected to attract investments, generate employment opportunities, and support small and medium enterprises in the region.

By developing structured urban clusters, the state aims to reduce unplanned expansion and encourage organized industrial and residential development.

New SOP for Faster Map Approvals Introduced

Along with the new cities project, the Cabinet has also approved a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for map approvals in areas where master plans are not yet available.

The new system is expected to simplify construction approvals, reduce procedural delays, and enhance transparency in urban planning processes. It will also make it easier for investors and developers to undertake projects, thereby improving the ease of doing business in the state.

Uttar Pradesh’s Larger Urban Development Vision

The new cities initiative aligns with the Yogi government’s broader urban development strategy, which includes expressways, airports, smart cities, industrial corridors, and infrastructure modernization projects.

Over the past few years, Uttar Pradesh has focused on transforming itself into a major investment destination through large-scale infrastructure expansion and policy reforms.

Officials stated that balanced urbanization is essential to bridge the gap between rural and urban regions and ensure equitable development across the state.

Master Planning and Sustainable Development Ahead

Detailed master planning for the three new cities is expected to begin soon. Authorities have indicated that environmental sustainability will be a key focus area in the planning process.

Green spaces, efficient transport systems, climate-friendly infrastructure, and smart governance mechanisms are expected to form the backbone of the new urban centres.

With this initiative, Uttar Pradesh moves closer to its long-term vision of becoming one of India’s most advanced and well-planned states in terms of urban infrastructure.
