Jaipur: In a major development for Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) officers aspiring for promotion to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), the UPSC Selection Committee meeting has been scheduled for September 23, 2026, at 4 pm. The meeting will consider the filling of 18 vacant IAS posts through promotion from the State Civil Service.

Rajasthan Chief Secretary V. Srinivas is scheduled to attend the meeting. The selection process is expected to be closely watched by RAS officers, particularly those from the 1998 and 1999 batches who are eligible for consideration.

UPSC Meeting to Consider 18 IAS Vacancies

The UPSC Selection Committee will meet to consider eligible State Civil Service officers for promotion to the IAS against 18 vacant posts.

The meeting is significant for senior RAS officers as the selection will determine which officers are recommended for elevation to the IAS.

Among the officers under consideration are:

  • 15 RAS officers from the 1998 batch
  • 3 RAS officers from the 1999 batch

The meeting will also be attended by Rajasthan Chief Secretary V. Srinivas.

1998-Batch RAS Officers Among Key Contenders

Several senior RAS officers from the 1998 batch are among the names being considered for IAS promotion.

The prominent names include:

  • Meghna Chaudhary
  • Om Prakash Jain
  • Rajesh Singh
  • Mukesh Kumar Sharma
  • Mahendra Kumar Sharma
  • Anju Rajpal
  • Vivek Kumar
  • Madan Lal Nehra
  • Dinesh Kumar Jangid
  • Poonam Prasad Sagar
  • Ummed Singh
  • Mahaveer Kharadi

The selection process will determine which eligible officers are recommended for appointment to the IAS against the available vacancies.

Three RAS Officers From 1999 Batch Also in Consideration

Three officers from the 1999 RAS batch are also among the prominent names for consideration.

They are:

  • Dr Bhagchand Badhal
  • Aslam Sher Khan
  • Narendra Kumar Bansal

Their names will be considered alongside the eligible officers from the 1998 batch.

Sealed Envelopes of Earlier Names May Also Be Considered

The UPSC Selection Committee meeting may also take up the sealed envelopes of three officers whose cases were considered earlier.

The names are:

  • Arun Prakash Sharma
  • Ramswaroop
  • Gopal Ram Birda

There is also a possibility that Gopal Ram Birda’s sealed envelope may be opened during the proceedings.

The decision on the sealed-cover cases could therefore be another important aspect of the September 23 meeting.

Some RAS Officers May Not Be Considered Due to Age Limit

While several officers are in contention for promotion, some senior RAS officers may not be considered because of the applicable age limit.

Among the 1998-batch officers who may not be considered are:

  • Bhavani Singh Palawat
  • Dr Banshidhar Kumawat
  • Parshuram Dhanka
  • Jayanarayan Meena
  • Dr Vriddhichand Garg

From the 1999 batch, the officers who may be excluded on account of age include:

  • Ramlal Gurjar
  • Dr Mahendra Lodha

The age criterion could therefore have a direct bearing on the final list of officers considered for promotion.

September 23 Meeting Crucial for RAS-to-IAS Promotions

The upcoming UPSC Selection Committee meeting is expected to be an important step in the process of filling the 18 IAS vacancies through promotion from the Rajasthan State Civil Service.

With senior RAS officers from two batches in contention, along with the possibility of decisions on earlier sealed-cover cases, the outcome of the meeting will be closely watched by the officers and the Rajasthan administrative establishment.
