Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved the rehabilitation of 99 Hindu families from erstwhile East Pakistan living illegally in Meerut, alongside major urban development initiatives including a new Urban Redevelopment Policy, science parks, and planetariums. The government has also outlined measures to aid families affected by natural disasters, providing housing, agricultural land, and financial support.

Rehabilitation of East Pakistan Hindu Families

Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna announced that the Cabinet has approved plans to resettle 99 Hindu families currently living illegally in the Mawana area of Meerut. These families will be relocated to Bhainsaya village and Tajpur Tarsauli village in Kanpur Dehat, on designated land plots.

Each family will receive a 0.50-acre plot on a 30-year renewable lease, in compliance with National Green Tribunal (NGT) directives. This initiative aims to provide a permanent solution for displaced families, ensuring security, livelihood opportunities, and access to basic amenities.

  • Simplified approval processes for developers and businesses
  • Revised development charges to promote efficient urban planning
  • Creation of science parks and planetariums in Bareilly and Moradabad to boost scientific education and innovation

This policy is expected to attract investment, enhance infrastructure, and create new opportunities in urban centers across Uttar Pradesh.

Support for Disaster-Affected Families

In addition to rehabilitation and urban development measures, the Cabinet announced support for families impacted by natural disasters. This includes:

  • Financial aid for immediate relief
  • Provision of housing to displaced families
  • Allocation of agricultural land to restore livelihoods

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the government’s commitment to social welfare and inclusive development, ensuring that both displaced and disaster-affected families receive timely assistance.

Holistic Approach to Development

The Cabinet’s decisions reflect a dual approach: addressing the needs of vulnerable communities while promoting urban growth and scientific advancement. By combining rehabilitation programs, urban modernization, and scientific infrastructure development, the Uttar Pradesh government aims to foster equitable development across the state.
