Dehradun: The Uttarakhand Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, will hold its next meeting in Haridwar on October 12, 2026, as the state government continues its efforts to take governance and decision-making closer to different regions.
The Cabinet meeting will be held at 11 am in the conference hall of the CCR Building in Haridwar. The move comes shortly after the government held a Cabinet meeting in Champawat, highlighting its focus on taking administrative activities beyond Dehradun.
Haridwar Cabinet Meeting to Focus on Development
The Haridwar meeting is expected to focus on development-related matters and issues concerning the public.
Haridwar is an important religious, industrial and tourism centre of Uttarakhand. The district also holds significance because of major events such as the Kumbh Mela.
Against this backdrop, development, infrastructure, tourism, industrial activities and preparations related to major upcoming events are expected to remain important areas of attention.
After Champawat, Cabinet Meeting Moves to Haridwar
The decision to hold the Cabinet meeting in Haridwar follows the recent meeting in Banbasa, Champawat district, which was the first Cabinet meeting held in Champawat. The government had said that Cabinet meetings would also be organised in different districts to bring governance closer to people and understand local issues and development priorities.
Holding the next meeting in Haridwar gives representation to the state’s plains region while continuing the government’s stated approach of balanced development across Uttarakhand.
Gairsain Assembly Session May Also Come Up
The proposed schedule for the upcoming Uttarakhand Assembly session is also expected to be discussed during the Cabinet meeting.
The session is being considered for Gairsain between October 21 and 24, but the final dates are yet to be decided by the Cabinet.
Gairsain has long held significance in Uttarakhand’s political and administrative discourse, particularly in relation to the state’s hill regions.
Focus on Kumbh, Infrastructure and Tourism
Haridwar’s importance as a major pilgrimage, tourism and industrial destination makes it a significant location for a Cabinet meeting.
The government is expected to keep an eye on issues linked to Kumbh preparations, infrastructure development, tourism, industrial growth and other major events in the region.
The state’s official tender portal also shows ongoing infrastructure works in Haridwar linked to the 2027 Kumbh Mela, including road improvement and construction projects.
Government Pushes Decentralised Governance
The Cabinet’s move from Champawat to Haridwar reflects the Dhami government’s stated effort to take governance beyond the state capital and give different regions a platform to highlight their local priorities.
The Champawat meeting was described as part of an initiative to bring governance closer to remote and border areas, while the Haridwar meeting puts greater focus on the plains and one of the state’s major economic and religious centres.
