Dehradun: In a major boost to development activities in Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has approved financial allocations worth ₹124 crore for multiple projects across the state. The initiatives aim to strengthen infrastructure, improve disaster management systems, enhance drinking water facilities, and accelerate preparations for the upcoming Kumbh Mela 2027.

Key Allocations for Infrastructure and Urban Development

A significant portion of the budget has been directed toward infrastructure upgrades:

  • ₹12 crore has been sanctioned under the UIDF scheme for utility shifting work to upgrade New Cantt Road in Dehradun (from Dilaram Bazaar to Vijay Colony Bridge) from two lanes to three lanes.
  • ₹39 crore has been approved for the construction of a multi-level parking facility in Ramnagar.
  • ₹3.70 crore has been allocated for new residential buildings in Pauri district jail.

  • ₹3.47 crore has been allocated for the Dwari-Bhaun road project in Rikhnikhal, Pauri Garhwal.

Such projects are crucial for enhancing accessibility and boosting local economies.

Major Push for Kumbh Mela 2027 Preparations

Keeping the Kumbh Mela 2027 in mind, the government has sanctioned ₹50.23 crore for the Ganga Corridor project in Haridwar. The funds will be used for the renovation and redevelopment of key घाटs including:

  • Har Ki Pauri
  • Subhash Ghat
  • Kangra Ghat
  • Malviya Dweep
  • Rodi Belwala

These upgrades aim to accommodate millions of pilgrims and improve safety and facilities.

Social Welfare and Public Services

The government has also focused on social infrastructure:

  • ₹7.51 crore has been approved for setting up a de-addiction center in Dehradun.
  • ₹14 lakh has been sanctioned for the first phase of an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) center in Almora under the State Legal Services Authority.

These initiatives are expected to strengthen public health and legal support systems.

Cultural and Local Development Projects

Several smaller but important projects have also been approved:

  • ₹25 lakh for beautification of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Park and pond in Darau village, Kichha.
  • ₹70 lakh for restoration of historical buildings in Dantu village, Dharchula (Pithoragarh).
  • Funds for development works in Devprayag, Khatima, and Pithoragarh, including temple infrastructure, shelters, and fairgrounds.

Renaming of Kanak Chowk in Dehradun

In a symbolic move, the Chief Minister has approved renaming Kanak Chowk in Dehradun as “Shaheed Kesari Chand Chowk” in honor of a freedom fighter associated with the Azad Hind Fauj. However, Lansdowne Chowk will retain its existing name.

Boost to State Development

These decisions reflect the Uttarakhand government’s commitment to balanced regional development. With investments spanning infrastructure, tourism, social welfare, and cultural preservation, the state is set to witness accelerated growth in the coming years.
