Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami released a Solar Awareness Booklet prepared by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), marking a major step toward strengthening clean energy awareness and adoption in the state. The initiative aims to educate citizens and accelerate the transition toward renewable energy.
The program highlights Uttarakhand’s rapid progress under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, with the state emerging as one of the leading performers in rooftop solar implementation across India.
Solar Awareness Initiative to Promote Clean Energy Adoption
The newly launched booklet, developed by Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), is designed to spread awareness about solar energy benefits among citizens.
CM Dhami said the initiative represents more than just a publication—it reflects a collective commitment toward building a self-reliant, clean, and green future for Uttarakhand.
He emphasized that in the face of global climate change and rising energy challenges, solar power has become a necessity rather than an option.
40,000 Rooftop Solar Installations Achieved in Record Time
Uttarakhand has successfully installed around 40,000 rooftop solar plants, achieving nearly 95% of its initial target ahead of schedule.
The state government confirmed that it is now among the top-performing states in the implementation of the PM Surya Ghar scheme. Officials noted that coordinated efforts from departments including Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) and Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (UREDA) played a crucial role in this achievement.
10-Fold Increase in Solar Energy Capacity
According to the state government, Uttarakhand has recorded a tenfold increase in solar energy capacity since 2024, reflecting rapid expansion in renewable energy infrastructure.
Currently, the state has developed approximately 290 MW of residential rooftop solar capacity, strengthening its position in India’s clean energy transition.
CM Dhami described this milestone as a historic achievement toward building an energy self-sufficient Uttarakhand.
Public Participation and Awareness Campaigns
To boost citizen participation, the state has launched awareness initiatives such as “Solar Kauthig”, which includes:
- Public awareness drives
- Street plays (nukkad nataks)
- Training programs for officials and stakeholders
These initiatives aim to ensure that citizens become active participants in the clean energy movement rather than passive beneficiaries.
Uttarakhand Positioned as a National Model in Renewable Energy
CM Dhami expressed confidence that Uttarakhand will soon emerge as a model state for renewable energy adoption in India.
He stated that increased solar energy usage will:
- Reduce electricity costs for households
- Strengthen environmental protection
- Ensure a cleaner and safer future for coming generations
With its strong policy push and rapid infrastructure expansion, Uttarakhand is positioning itself as a leader in India’s solar energy revolution.
