Dehradun: A state-level Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Achievers Award ceremony was held at the Uday Shankar Dance and Music Academy in Almora, Uttarakhand. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attended the event as the chief guest.
During the ceremony, 32 organizations, individuals, and groups were honored for their outstanding contributions toward sustainable development goals. Additionally, six districts that performed well in district-level SDG rankings were also felicitated.
CM Dhami Highlights Inclusive Development and Sustainability
Addressing the gathering, CM Dhami congratulated all award winners and said the recognition reflects their meaningful contribution to society despite limited resources. He emphasized that such efforts have helped create a strong identity for grassroots development initiatives in the state.
He also stressed the importance of balancing environmental protection with development, especially in a Himalayan state like Uttarakhand that faces unique geographical and ecological challenges.
Uttarakhand’s Progress in SDG India Index
CM Dhami highlighted Uttarakhand’s strong performance in the NITI Aayog SDG India Index. He noted that the state has moved from 10th position to 1st position nationally, marking a significant improvement in sustainable development outcomes.
He added that the government is continuously working toward achieving SDG targets by 2030 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Economic Growth and Key Development Indicators
The Chief Minister also presented key economic indicators, stating that Uttarakhand has recorded:
- 7.23% growth in Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP)
- 4.1% increase in per capita income
- 4.4% reduction in unemployment rate, better than the national average
He said these achievements reflect the state’s focused development approach in sectors like infrastructure, energy, industry, and social welfare.
Growth in Industry, Energy, and Rural Development
CM Dhami noted rapid progress in multiple sectors, including:
- Industry and startups
- Helicopter services
- Highway construction
- Green energy and power production
He also highlighted that these developments are encouraging reverse migration, with people returning to villages for employment and self-employment opportunities.
Central Government Support and National Recognition
Union Minister of State Ajay Tamta praised Uttarakhand’s SDG achievements, stating that the top ranking reflects consistent efforts by the state government and public participation.
He emphasized that Uttarakhand’s progress is aligned with the vision of a developed India (Viksit Bharat), and its policy-driven approach has strengthened overall development across sectors.
Expert Insights and Administrative Support
Principal Secretary Planning and CEO of Centre for Public Policy and Good Governance (CPPGG), Dr. R. Meenakshi Sundaram, elaborated on SDG concepts and detailed the state’s performance improvements.
He stressed the importance of collective participation to further strengthen Uttarakhand’s position as a leading state in sustainable development.
District-Level SDG Rankings Announced
In the annual SDG district rankings:
- First Rank: Rudraprayag
- Second Rank: Uttarkashi and Nainital
- Third Rank: Bageshwar, Chamoli, and Tehri
These rankings highlight balanced progress across multiple regions of the state.
