New Delhi: NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Limited, has announced the commercial operation of the final 105 MW phase of its 1,200 MW Khavda-II Solar PV Project in Gujarat. With this, the large-scale solar project has been fully commissioned, strengthening the group’s renewable energy portfolio.
Final Phase of Khavda-II Solar Project Now Operational
According to a regulatory filing submitted on May 27, 2026, the eighth and final phase of the project began commercial operations from 00:00 hours on May 28, 2026.
The 105 MW addition marks the completion of the 1,200 MW Khavda-II Solar PV Project, one of NTPC Green Energy’s key utility-scale solar developments in India.

Total Renewable Capacity Crosses 10,621 MW
With the commissioning of the final phase, the installed renewable energy capacity of NTPC Green Energy Group has increased:
- From 10,516.40 MW
- To 10,621.40 MW
The expansion highlights the company’s continued push in solar and renewable energy development across India.
Gujarat Emerging as Key Solar Hub
The Khavda-II Solar Project is located in Gujarat, a state that has become a major center for large-scale solar energy projects due to:
- High solar irradiation potential
- Availability of large land parcels
- Strong infrastructure for renewable integration
The project is considered part of India’s broader clean energy transition.
Disclosure Under SEBI Regulations
The company confirmed that the announcement was made under Regulation 30 of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements Regulations, 2015.
The filing was submitted to both the National Stock Exchange of India and BSE Limited.
Renewable Expansion and Capacity Targets
NTPC Green Energy continues to expand its renewable portfolio across solar, wind, and hybrid projects as part of India’s clean energy goals.
Key highlights include:
- Total renewable capacity of NTPC Group now stands at 12,068 MW
- Renewable energy generation in FY26: 43.22 billion units
- FY25 generation comparison: 43.87 billion units
Curtailment and Grid Challenges Impact Operations
During the investor call, management highlighted ongoing challenges affecting renewable operations.
Reported issues include:
- 314 million units (MU) of renewable energy curtailment in FY26
- Around 135 MU transmission-related losses due to grid constraints
These challenges continue to impact optimal energy evacuation and utilization.
Capacity Addition Plans Remain on Track
Despite project delays, the company stated that it is:
- Maintaining its 8 GW capacity addition target for the current year
- Managing spillovers of some projects into the next financial year
- Exploring alternative sourcing to meet its 5 GW expansion goals
