Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has shared a video and a poem highlighting the importance of respecting mothers, amid a political controversy over a comedian’s mimicry of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ event in Indore.
Sai shared the message on social media without naming any political leader. In his post, he wrote:
“A mother is love, a mother is compassion, a mother is the foundation of life; At a mother’s feet, the whole world bows in devotion. One who insults his mother is deemed an unworthy son, And one who disrespects her will find no place of honour anywhere.”
The Chief Minister’s post focused on the place of mothers in Indian culture and the values of respect, compassion and dignity. He also shared a video featuring a poem on mothers by late poet Om Vyas.
Context of the Controversy
The post comes days after stand-up comedian Pulkit Mani performed a mimicry act involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ (Students’ Voice) programme in Indore on September 19, where Rahul Gandhi was present.

During the performance, Mani imitated Modi’s mannerisms and speaking style and referred to an incident involving the Prime Minister offering a chair to an elderly woman. The act included the line, “Maa ko kursi do, maa” (Give the mother a chair, mother).
The performance triggered criticism from BJP leaders, who alleged that the act mocked Modi and his late mother. Congress leaders, meanwhile, defended the performance as mimicry and political satire.
Sai’s post did not mention Rahul Gandhi, the Congress or the Indore event by name. Instead, it centred on the dignity of mothers and their place in Indian cultural traditions.
Sai’s Message on Mothers
In the accompanying message, Sai described mothers as embodiments of affection, compassion, sacrifice and values. The Chief Minister also highlighted the contribution of mothers to shaping the lives of their children.
His post came as the controversy over the Indore performance continued, with leaders from the BJP and Congress exchanging statements over the comedian’s act and the political context in which it was performed.
The comedian later announced the cancellation of some scheduled shows in Uttar Pradesh, saying he had received repeated threats, though he did not provide details about the alleged threats.
