NAGPUR: Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), a public sector coal mining company, has honoured its Excavation and Security departments for their outstanding cleanliness and workplace maintenance efforts under Swachhata Pakhwada.
The awards were presented during the Monsoon Offtake Excellence Awards 2026 ceremony held at Sanskrutik Bhawan at WCL headquarters on October 6, 2026.
A high-level committee was constituted to assess cleanliness, workplace organisation and overall maintenance across various departments at the WCL headquarters. Following inspections and evaluations, the Excavation Department was selected as the best-performing department in the non-renovated category, while the Security Department secured the top position in the renovated category.
WCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Dr Hemant Sharad Pandey presented the awards in the presence of Director (Technical–Operations) Sandeep Paranjpe, Director (Technical–Projects and Planning) Dr Anjani Kumar, and members of the WCL Operations Committee.
WCL Recognises Best Departments Under Swachhata Pakhwada
As part of Swachhata Pakhwada, WCL conducted a detailed assessment of cleanliness and maintenance standards across departments at its headquarters.
A high-level committee inspected the departments and evaluated them based on several parameters, including:
- Workplace cleanliness and hygiene
- Organisation and upkeep of departmental spaces
- Overall workplace maintenance
- Adherence to cleanliness and workplace management standards
For the evaluation, the departments were divided into two categories: renovated and non-renovated departments.
Following the assessment, the Excavation Department was declared the best department in the non-renovated category, while the Security Department topped the renovated category.

Excavation and Security Departments Receive Awards
The awards were presented to representatives of both departments in recognition of their efforts to maintain clean, organised and well-maintained workplaces.
The Excavation Department, which secured first place in the non-renovated category, was represented by General Manager (Excavation) V. Vasu and his team.
The Security Department, selected as the best department in the renovated category, was represented by Head of Department (Security) Lieutenant Commander (Dr.) Vikrant Malhan and his team.
The recognition highlighted the departments’ contributions to improving workplace cleanliness, organisation and maintenance at WCL headquarters.
WCL CMD Emphasises Cleanliness as Part of Daily Work Culture
Addressing the ceremony, WCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Dr Hemant Sharad Pandey congratulated both departments on their achievements and appreciated their efforts to maintain clean and organised workplaces.
He said a clean and well-maintained workplace provides employees with a better working environment and brings positive changes to organisational work culture.
Dr Pandey emphasised that cleanliness should not be limited to a particular campaign or fortnight. Instead, it should become an integral part of employees’ daily working practices.
He also appreciated the departments for their efforts towards maintaining cleanliness, improving workplace organisation and ensuring better upkeep of their respective work areas.
The initiative reflects WCL’s focus on promoting workplace hygiene, discipline and a culture of continuous improvement across its headquarters.
