Nagpur: Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) has achieved a major technological milestone with the commencement of coal cutting operations using a Continuous Miner at Saoner Mine No. 1 in the Nagpur Area. This marks the first deployment of Continuous Miner technology in the region and represents a significant shift toward mechanized and efficient coal production.
The initiative was formally inaugurated by WCL Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Hemant Sharad Pande during his visit to the mine on June 15, 2026.
Inauguration Led by WCL Leadership
The coal cutting operations were inaugurated in the presence of senior WCL leadership. Dr. Hemant Sharad Pande was accompanied by:

First Continuous Miner Deployment in Nagpur Area
The introduction of Continuous Miner technology at Saoner Mine No. 1 is being seen as a transformative step in regional coal mining operations. The system is expected to:
