Kolkata: Fourteen IPS officers of West Bengal will be honoured with medals for their distinguished service and contributions to policing on the occasion of the country’s 80th Independence Day on Saturday.
The awards recognise officers for their professional commitment, notable contributions to policing and dedication to duty.
Of the 14 officers selected, six will receive the Chief Minister’s Medal for Outstanding Contribution, while eight others will be honoured for meritorious service.
Six Officers Selected for Chief Minister’s Medal
Six senior IPS officers have been selected for the Chief Minister’s Medal for Outstanding Contribution.
The officers are –
- Damayanti Sen
- Ajay Kumar
- Neeraj Kumar Singh
- K. Jayaraman
- Pranab Kumar
- Kunal Aggarwal
The medal recognises their outstanding contributions to policing and public service.

Eight Officers to Receive Medals for Meritorious Service
Eight other IPS officers will be honoured for their meritorious contribution to policing.
The recipients include senior officers heading important police ranges, commissionerates and districts across West Bengal.
They are Kankar Prasad Barui, Inspector General of Police, Presidency Range; Sunil Kumar Yadav, Commissioner of Police, Chandannagar; Rathore Amit Kumar Bharat, Commissioner of Police, Bidhannagar; and Surya Pratap Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Kolkata.
The remaining recipients are Anshuman Saha, Superintendent of Police, Purba Medinipur; Pushpa, Superintendent of Police, Purba Bardhaman; Sachin Makkar, Superintendent of Police, Murshidabad Police District; and Arvind Kumar Anand, Superintendent of Police, Baruipur Police District.
Officers Serving Across Key Policing Assignments
The list includes officers currently serving in a wide range of operational and administrative positions.
The recipients include officers responsible for police ranges, metropolitan commissionerates, traffic management and district policing, reflecting the varied nature of the service for which the medals are being awarded.
Their present assignments cover major urban policing jurisdictions such as Kolkata, Chandannagar and Bidhannagar, as well as districts including Purba Medinipur, Purba Bardhaman, Murshidabad and Baruipur.
Medals to Be Presented During Independence Day Celebrations
The medals will be presented as part of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15.
The honours are intended to recognise the officers’ notable contributions, professional commitment and dedication to duty.
The awards also acknowledge the role of the police leadership in maintaining law and order, public safety and effective policing across the state.
