West Bengal Posts 3 IPS Officers, 16 Police Personnel to Anti-Corruption Branch; Kamanasish Sen Appointed SP, Intelligence Branch

West Bengal has strengthened its Anti-Corruption Branch by deputing three IPS officers and 16 police personnel from various state police units, aiming to enhance the agency's operational capacity and anti-corruption investigations.

Kolkata: In a significant move to strengthen the functioning of its anti-corruption machinery, the West Bengal Government has deputed three Indian Police Service (IPS) officers from the Intelligence Branch (IB) to the Directorate of Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB). Simultaneously, the state police headquarters has also deployed 16 police personnel from different units to the Anti-Corruption Branch, reinforcing its operational strength.

The twin orders, issued by the Home & Hill Affairs Department and the Director General of Police (DGP), are aimed at bolstering the state’s premier anti-corruption agency and enhancing its investigative capabilities.

Three IPS Officers Posted to Anti-Corruption Branch

According to an order issued by the Home & Hill Affairs Department on Monday (August 3, 2026), the following IPS officers have been deputed from the Intelligence Branch to the Directorate of Anti-Corruption Branch with immediate effect until further orders:

  • Murli Dhar (IPS:2005:WB) – Inspector General of Police, Intelligence Branch
  • Akash Magharia (IPS:2009:WB) – Deputy Inspector General, Intelligence Branch
  • Kamanasish Sen (IPS:2014:WB) – Senior Superintendent, Intelligence Branch

All three officers will serve in the Anti-Corruption Branch on a deputation basis.

16 Police Personnel Also Deputed

In a parallel order, the Director General of Police, West Bengal, deputed 16 police personnel from different units of the state police to the Anti-Corruption Branch for a period of two months.

The deputation includes personnel from various ranks:

  • One Deputy Superintendent of Police
  • Seven Inspectors
  • Two Sub-Inspectors
  • Six Constables
  • Personnel Drawn from Multiple Police Units

The officers and personnel have been drawn from a wide range of police establishments across the state, including:

  • Barrackpore Police Commissionerate
  • Paschim Medinipur District Police
  • West Bengal Special Task Force (STF)
  • Criminal Investigation Department (CID)
  • Hooghly Rural Police
  • Howrah Government Railway Police (GRP)
  • Krishnanagar Police District
  • Sundarban Police District
  • Intelligence Branch
  • West Bengal Police Directorate

The personnel have been directed to report to the Directorate of Anti-Corruption Branch by 10:00 AM on August 4, 2026.

Move Aimed at Strengthening Anti-Corruption Operations

The deputation of senior IPS officers along with experienced police personnel is expected to significantly enhance the Anti-Corruption Branch’s operational capacity.

With officers drawn from intelligence, investigation, law enforcement, and specialized policing units, the Anti-Corruption Branch is likely to benefit from greater investigative expertise, improved coordination, and stronger field-level capabilities while handling corruption-related cases.

The move also reflects the state’s focus on reinforcing institutional mechanisms for vigilance and anti-corruption enforcement by augmenting manpower with experienced officers from key policing wings.
