Transformation of Legacy Waste into Eco Park

A major highlight of the event was the transformation of a massive legacy waste dump at Eklta Bund into a modern eco park.

According to officials, around 2.26 lakh metric tonnes of waste were scientifically processed and converted into a green recreational space. The newly developed eco park now includes:

  • Children’s play areas
  • Yoga and meditation zones

CM Yogi described the transformation as an example of turning “waste into wealth,” emphasizing sustainable urban development.

During the event, the Chief Minister also launched the Swachh School Campaign, aimed at promoting cleanliness awareness among students.

Key features of the campaign include:

  • Participation of over 1 lakh students

Public Transport, Parks and Eco-Friendly Initiatives

The municipal corporation also flagged off new civic vehicles including:

  • Poclain machines
  • CNG-based waste collection vehicles
  • Skid loaders
  • Deep freezer-equipped mortuary vans

In addition, several parks under the “Udyan Yojana” and green belt projects were launched to increase urban greenery and improve air quality.

  • Nausad–Maloni four-lane road (3 km stretch)
  • Roads connecting key junctions under smart city upgrades
  • Development of major corridors including Baitalahaata, TDM intersection, and University routes

The large-scale inauguration of ₹1,055 crore worth of projects marks a significant step in Gorakhpur’s urban transformation journey.
