Gorakhpur: Gorakhpur witnessed a major development milestone as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of 497 development projects worth ₹1,055 crore. The event, held at the Eklta Bund area on the banks of the Rapti River, highlighted the state government’s continued focus on urban transformation, infrastructure growth, and environmental sustainability in Gorakhpur.
Major Infrastructure Push Across Gorakhpur
The Chief Minister inaugurated and launched a wide range of projects including roads, drainage systems, parks, smart streets, and public utilities. Key among them were:
- 6 smart roads under the CM GRID (Chief Minister Green Road Infrastructure Development) scheme
- 87 road and drainage construction works worth ₹95.77 crore
- 83 drainage projects worth ₹129.85 crore
- Municipal development works worth ₹58 crore
These initiatives aim to improve connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and strengthen urban infrastructure across the city.

Transformation of Legacy Waste into Eco Park
A major highlight of the event was the transformation of a massive legacy waste dump at Eklta Bund into a modern eco park.
According to officials, around 2.26 lakh metric tonnes of waste were scientifically processed and converted into a green recreational space. The newly developed eco park now includes:
- Children’s play areas
- Yoga and meditation zones
- Green landscaping and forest patches
CM Yogi described the transformation as an example of turning “waste into wealth,” emphasizing sustainable urban development.
Launch of ‘Swachh School Campaign’
During the event, the Chief Minister also launched the Swachh School Campaign, aimed at promoting cleanliness awareness among students.
Key features of the campaign include:
- Participation of over 1 lakh students
- Focus on Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (RRR) awareness
- Competitions like essays, reels, and waste-to-art activities
- Involvement of teachers and parents to build a mass movement
The initiative is designed to help Gorakhpur achieve a top ranking in the national cleanliness survey and become a 7-star garbage-free city.

Focus on Smart, Clean and Green Urban Development
CM Yogi Adityanath emphasized that governance driven by “clear intent and strong willpower” has transformed Gorakhpur over the last nine years.
He highlighted improvements in:
- Road connectivity and transport infrastructure
- Healthcare through institutions like AIIMS and BRD Medical College
- Education with multiple universities
- Industrial growth including fertilizer and sugar mills
- Flood management and drainage systems
- Smart lighting, clean water supply, and sanitation
He also noted that solar energy installations at Eklta Bund will help the city move toward net-zero energy goals.
Public Transport, Parks and Eco-Friendly Initiatives
The municipal corporation also flagged off new civic vehicles including:
- Poclain machines
- CNG-based waste collection vehicles
- Skid loaders
- Deep freezer-equipped mortuary vans
In addition, several parks under the “Udyan Yojana” and green belt projects were launched to increase urban greenery and improve air quality.
New Roads to Improve Connectivity
Among the major infrastructure announcements, several key road projects were launched to improve mobility in Gorakhpur, including:
- Nausad–Maloni four-lane road (3 km stretch)
- Roads connecting key junctions under smart city upgrades
- Development of major corridors including Baitalahaata, TDM intersection, and University routes
These projects are expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion and improve regional connectivity.

Awards, Tree Plantation and Civic Engagement
During the event, outstanding municipal employees were honored for their performance. The Chief Minister also:
- Planted saplings to promote environmental conservation
- Encouraged mass plantation drives during the upcoming Van Mahotsav
- Called for development of mini urban forests in every ward
He urged public representatives and citizens to actively participate in greening initiatives.
The large-scale inauguration of ₹1,055 crore worth of projects marks a significant step in Gorakhpur’s urban transformation journey. With a strong focus on infrastructure, cleanliness, sustainability, and citizen participation, the initiatives aim to further accelerate the city’s development trajectory and strengthen its position as a model urban center in Uttar Pradesh.
