Transformation of Legacy Waste into Eco Park

A major highlight of the event was the transformation of a massive legacy waste dump at Eklta Bund into a modern eco park.

According to officials, around 2.26 lakh metric tonnes of waste were scientifically processed and converted into a green recreational space. The newly developed eco park now includes:

  • Children’s play areas
  • Yoga and meditation zones

CM Yogi described the transformation as an example of turning “waste into wealth,” emphasizing sustainable urban development.

During the event, the Chief Minister also launched the Swachh School Campaign, aimed at promoting cleanliness awareness among students.

Key features of the campaign include:

  • Participation of over 1 lakh students

  • Competitions like essays, reels, and waste-to-art activities
  • Involvement of teachers and parents to build a mass movement

The initiative is designed to help Gorakhpur achieve a top ranking in the national cleanliness survey and become a 7-star garbage-free city.

He also noted that solar energy installations at Eklta Bund will help the city move toward net-zero energy goals.

Public Transport, Parks and Eco-Friendly Initiatives

The municipal corporation also flagged off new civic vehicles including:

  • Poclain machines
  • CNG-based waste collection vehicles
  • Skid loaders
  • Deep freezer-equipped mortuary vans

In addition, several parks under the “Udyan Yojana” and green belt projects were launched to increase urban greenery and improve air quality.

New Roads to Improve Connectivity

Among the major infrastructure announcements, several key road projects were launched to improve mobility in Gorakhpur, including:

  • Nausad–Maloni four-lane road (3 km stretch)
  • Roads connecting key junctions under smart city upgrades
  • Development of major corridors including Baitalahaata, TDM intersection, and University routes

These projects are expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion and improve regional connectivity.

  • Encouraged mass plantation drives during the upcoming Van Mahotsav
  • Called for development of mini urban forests in every ward

He urged public representatives and citizens to actively participate in greening initiatives.

The large-scale inauguration of ₹1,055 crore worth of projects marks a significant step in Gorakhpur’s urban transformation journey. With a strong focus on infrastructure, cleanliness, sustainability, and citizen participation, the initiatives aim to further accelerate the city’s development trajectory and strengthen its position as a model urban center in Uttar Pradesh.
