A beautiful promotional video of the broadway version of K. Asif’s Mughal-e-Azam has gone viral on the Internet. Shared by 2010 batch IAS Shah Faesal, the video depicted some class moves by dancers on the famous Times Square in New York as “Jab Pyar Kiya Tou Darna Kya” played in the background.

The musical kickstarted its 13-city tour of the U.S. with a sensational flash mob at New York’s Times Square.

One of the greatest Bollywood blockbuster Mughal-e-Azam, starring Prithviraj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and Madhubala, is one of the epic historical dramas to be made till date. Both in B/W and colour version it swept audiences off their feet with a love affair of Mughal Prince Salim (who went on to become Emperor Jahangir) and Anarkali, a court dancer.

Now a musical show based on this epic creation is making headline on foreign soil. After more than 200 spellbinding performances across six Asian countries, India’s most spectacular musical play has premiered in North America.

The first Kashmiri Muslim to top the UPSC exam in the very first attempt in 2010, Shah Faesal tweeted. “Jab Pyar Kiya Tou Darna Kya at Times Square, New York as part of the promotions of a show named Mughal-e-Azam: The Musical, one of India’s biggest Broadway Musical in NYC.”

Mughal-e-Azam show, produced by Shapoorji Pallonji Group and directed by Feroz Abbas Khan, will be presented in North America by Cinema on Stage this summer. It will kick off 13-City North American tour in May last.

Based on K Asif’s 1960 classic of the same name, the play showcases India’s rich culture of Kathak dances and classical music intertwined in a legendary love story.
