At the 4th Eco Warrior Awards 2026 in New Delhi, Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav delivered a powerful message on the future of India's forests and wildlife.
Describing forests as India's “ecological infrastructure,” the Minister emphasised the need for a landscape approach to conservation that balances environmental protection, economic development, local livelihoods and community participation.
In his address, he highlighted the growing challenges faced by forest officers, including climate change, forest fires, habitat fragmentation, invasive species and human-wildlife conflict. He also stressed that while AI, remote sensing and modern technology can strengthen conservation, successful outcomes depend on field officers, frontline forest staff and local communities working together.
The Minister called for a shift from simply protecting forests to restoring and regenerating India's natural heritage, ensuring that future generations inherit healthy ecosystems and thriving wildlife.
The Eco Warrior Awards, a joint initiative of Indian Masterminds and the Indian Forest Service Association, recognise outstanding contributions to forest conservation, wildlife protection and environmental sustainability.
