Patna: A woman who stood by her husband when he was unemployed and preparing for the civil services examination has now approached the police with allegations of harassment against him and his family. However, despite the marital dispute, she says she does not want a divorce and hopes to start afresh with her husband.
The woman, Pooja Singh, is married to 2021-batch IPS officer Bhanu Pratap Singh, who is currently serving as the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Bihar’s Khagaria district.
Pooja has alleged that her relationship with her husband has deteriorated to the point where she has had to seek police intervention. She has also claimed that she is not being allowed to speak to their six-year-old daughter.
The matter has drawn attention in Bihar after Pooja staged a sit-in protest outside the Chief Minister’s residence in Patna a few days ago. She has since submitted a formal complaint at the women’s police station in the city.
Pooja Singh Stood by Him When He Was Preparing for UPSC
Recalling the early years of their relationship, Pooja said she married Bhanu Pratap Singh in 2016, when he was unemployed and preparing for the civil services examination.
She supported him during that period, and he was subsequently selected for the Indian Police Service. Bhanu Pratap Singh belongs to the 2021 batch and is currently posted as SP Khagaria.
However, Pooja says their relationship has since reached a difficult stage, forcing her to approach the police against her husband and in-laws.
The specific circumstances that led to the marital dispute, including when the differences began, have not yet been established from the information available.
Dispute Over Access to Their Six-Year-Old Daughter
One of Pooja’s major grievances concerns her access to the couple’s six-year-old daughter. She has alleged that her husband is not allowing her to speak to the child.
She staged a sit-in outside the Chief Minister’s residence in Patna to draw attention to her demand to communicate with her daughter.
According to her account, the dispute is not limited to differences between the couple but also involves her ability to maintain contact with their child.
‘I Do Not Want a Divorce’: Pooja Seeks Reconciliation
Despite filing a complaint against her husband and in-laws, Pooja has said that she does not want to end the marriage.
She has expressed a desire to rebuild her relationship with Bhanu Pratap Singh and begin a new life together with their daughter.
“I do not want a divorce,” she said. “It is my wish to begin anew with my husband and daughter. If he is willing to understand my perspective, I am prepared to withdraw my police complaint.”
Her statement indicates that she is seeking reconciliation even as she has approached the authorities over her allegations.
Police Receive Complaint, FIR Yet to Be Registered
Pooja submitted her complaint against her husband and in-laws at the women’s police station in Patna late at night.
Secretariat SDPO-1 Anu Kumari confirmed on Tuesday that the police had received the complaint. However, an FIR had not been registered at the time of her statement.
Anu Kumari said the matter was currently under investigation.
IPS Officer’s Response Awaited
According to the news agency report cited in the account, attempts were made to contact Bhanu Pratap Singh for his response to the allegations, but he could not be reached.
His version of the events and his response to the allegations made by his wife were therefore not available at the time of reporting.
The allegations remain subject to investigation, and the police have yet to register an FIR in the matter.
