Kaziranga National Park recently posted a photo of a ‘golden tiger’ from their X handle, which has sparked the curiosity of netizens, especially wildlife enthusiasts. The golden tiger is a magical big cat with a phenomenal golden coat. It is also known as the Strawberry Tiger or the Golden Tabby Tiger, and is a captivating variant of the Bengal Tiger.
It derives its name from its unique golden furs, which are the result of a genetic transformation that affects the natural colour of its fur. This remarkable coat colour, ranging from light gold to deep amber, sets it apart from its orange-striped relatives.
Their golden coat helps them to easily blend with the surrounding environment which makes them difficult to spot. But, as they look different from the Bengal Tigers, this makes them easily identifiable.
It is not clear yet if the golden tiger species is good for long-term survival. Experts have raised concerns about them saying they are the result of heavy in-breeding because of lack of sufficient habitats and corridors.
However, the bottom line is, the golden tiger is the rarest species of tiger and Kaziranga National Park is the only place in India where one can see it.
