Kishtwar district administration in Jammu and Kashmir is opening new vistas of development for the local youth. This remote and one of the largest districts in the union territory has partnered with the prestigious IIM Jammu in exploring the sea of opportunities before them.

Indian Masterminds spoke with DC Kishtwar, Devansh Yadav has conceptualized this Community Leadership Course for 30 aspiring youth of Kishtwar soon after being transferred here from Arunachal Pradesh.

YOUTH OF KISHTWAR

Several degree colleges have of late, been set up in Kishtwar but the Jammu University campus is still not operation. Even most talented students can’t study beyond graduation.

This is why most of the youth  remain confined within the district itself. The officer said, “due to lack of exposure they automatically limit themselves to one particular mindset and approach.”

MISSION YOUTH

Mission Youth programme of the state government, aims to rope in the youth in the age group 18-35 years.  Mr. Yadav said, “These youngsters are largely ignorant about the democratic institutions like panchayats, district development council, block development council etc. They remain unaware of government schemes launched for them.”

That’s why youth clubs were formed in each panchayat to make information about several schemes and benefits available to them.  Mission Youth has three main aspects – education, self-employment and quitting drugs.

To make this possible, the youth should be motivated. They should  channelize their energy in positive direction. “That’s why we sought help from IIM Jammu  in customizing a community leadership course of five days,” says Mr Yadav.

COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP COURSE

Based on the learnings, experience and field visits which will be conducted by the institute, these 30 youngsters will get to know how they can utilize the government schemes and become the instrument of change in their home village.

Dr. Devansh Yadav flagged off these students on 26 March from Kishtwar District to attend the five-day “Community Leadership Executive Course” at IIM Jammu. In these five days these students will be exposed to the  three pillars of Mission Youth through various activities and field visits. They will be addressed by many government officials and IIM faculty.

At least half of this continent includes young men who never got the opportunity to study due to some reason. They have been selected to ensure they are not deprived of opportunities.
