What is his identity? Which country is he from? Which religion is he from? For what purpose was he taking explosives? The Suspect is a film in which Jimmy Shergill, Adhyayan Suman, the granddaughter of the famous actress Nutan, Pranutan Behl, all of them have played key roles.
This film has been written and directed by the retired IRS officer Mr. Sudhanshu Shekhar Jha (2007 batch), who is known as Shekhar S. Jha in the film world. He spoke to Indian Masterminds about the idea behind the film.

The idea is simple, he says. “We make a perception about every person. A man is no longer an individual. He has to become a part of the society. The identity of the society becomes his identity”, he says. Sounds philosophical! Not exactly, if you have watched the film.

Indian Masterminds had the opportunity to preview the film. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable film with lots of masala and message in equal amount. The best part of the film is – its not preachy. Nor is an out and out masala film with sleaze and cheap humour thrown in. The film has a class of its own. So, shall we credit Mr Jha for such a nice film?
“I wrote the dialogues and dialogues. But I have not played all these roles alone. I had my team with me. When we thought of this concept from the very beginning of this film, our producer Rinku Singh, our editor Asim Sinha, our sound designer Niharanjan Samal, our director of photography Aniket Khandagale, we all discussed it together. After writing the script, we all gave our inputs. We made changes accordingly”, he told Indian Masterminds.
There are no songs in your film. But the film starts with an arti, which has been sung by Sukhwinder. Whats special about this arti? “I have a special love for Ma Ganga. Every morning and evening, there is an aarti of Ma Ganga. But I used to feel sad, that in the aarti of Ma Ganga, all the Gods and Goddesses are worshipped. But I have never seen any aarti of Ma Ganga. That’s why this arti was composed. I felt the singer should have the same depth, as of Ma Ganga. That’s how Sukhwinder Singh was chosen”, says Mr Jha.
