New Delhi: In a significant administrative move, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment, induction, and tenure extension of three officers in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The decisions aim to strengthen the agency’s leadership structure and operational capacity through a mix of promotion, fresh induction, and continuity in key roles.
The approvals include two officers from the Indian Revenue Service (IRS – Income Tax) and one officer from the Indian Police Service (IPS), reflecting a balanced approach to leadership within the premier investigative agency.
Amit Pratap Singh Promoted to DIG in CBI
One of the key decisions taken by the ACC is the promotion of Amit Pratap Singh (IRS-IT:2009). Currently serving as Superintendent of Police (SP) in the CBI, Singh has now been elevated to the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG).

His tenure in the new role has been approved up to May 14, 2028, or until further orders, ensuring continuity and stability in leadership. His promotion is seen as recognition of his experience and contributions within the agency.
Pushkin Jain Inducted as SP for Five-Year Tenure
In another important move, the ACC has approved the induction of Pushkin Jain (IPS:2017:AM) into the CBI as a Superintendent of Police (SP).
Jain’s appointment is for a period of five years from the date of assumption of charge, or until further orders. His induction is expected to bring fresh operational energy and strengthen investigative capabilities, particularly in handling complex cases.
Amit Sanjay Kadam Granted One-Year Extension
The ACC has also approved a one-year extension in the tenure of Amit Sanjay Kadam (IRS-IT:2011), who is currently serving as SP in the CBI.
His extended tenure will now continue beyond May 1, 2026, up to May 1, 2027, or until further orders. The extension reflects the government’s intent to retain experienced officers in critical roles to ensure continuity in ongoing investigations.
Balanced Leadership Mix Across Services
The latest decisions underline the Centre’s strategy of maintaining a diverse leadership structure within the CBI, drawing officers from both the IRS and IPS cadres.
While IRS officers bring strong financial investigation expertise—crucial in economic and corruption-related cases—IPS officers contribute operational policing experience, ensuring a comprehensive investigative framework.
Strengthening CBI’s Institutional Capacity
These appointments and extensions come at a time when the CBI continues to handle high-profile corruption cases, financial fraud investigations, and inter-agency coordination responsibilities.
By promoting experienced officers, inducting new talent, and extending key tenures, the ACC aims to ensure institutional stability, continuity, and enhanced efficiency within the agency.
Fresh Perspective
The ACC’s latest decisions mark another step toward reinforcing the leadership pipeline in the CBI. With Amit Pratap Singh’s promotion, Pushkin Jain’s induction, and Amit Sanjay Kadam’s extension, the agency is set to benefit from both experience and fresh perspective as it navigates an increasingly complex investigative landscape.
