Gandhinagar: A major development push was witnessed in the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency as Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 84 development projects worth ₹340 crore at Sonipur village in Kalol and Gandhinagar North Assembly constituencies. The event was attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel along with several senior leaders and officials.
Before the inauguration, both leaders also participated in a tree plantation drive, emphasizing environmental sustainability alongside infrastructure development.
Major Development Works Worth ₹340 Crore Inaugurated
The projects launched include works under GUDA, Panchayat bodies, Roads & Buildings Department, and CSR-supported initiatives from private institutions. Several railway underbridge projects were also inaugurated and newly launched as part of the infrastructure expansion.
According to officials, the development works aim to improve rural connectivity, civic infrastructure, and public utilities across Kalol and Gandhinagar North regions.
Vision for Gandhinagar as a Model Constituency
Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah stated that the government has launched continuous development initiatives to transform the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency into the most developed region in the country.
He highlighted that projects worth nearly ₹1,200 crore have been initiated in the last 10 days alone, reflecting accelerated development efforts by both the central and state governments.
He also emphasized the vision of making villages self-reliant, aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Atmanirbhar Bharat mission.
Focus on Rural Development, Education and Libraries
The Union Home Minister highlighted improvements in rural infrastructure, including sanitation, healthcare, drinking water supply, and education facilities.
He announced plans to establish village libraries, recreational spaces, and gardens in every village of the constituency by 2029. These libraries will be integrated into the Gandhinagar library network to promote reading habits among youth.
CSR contributions from private industrial groups are also being used to strengthen educational and community infrastructure.
Demographic Security and National Policy Remarks
In his address, Amit Shah also spoke about national security, stating that efforts are underway to address illegal infiltration concerns. He mentioned the establishment of detention centres and the planned formation of a “Demographic Change Commission” to study demographic shifts and suggest policy actions.
He further reiterated the government’s commitment to border security and infrastructure development along sensitive regions.
Tribute to Veer Savarkar
On the birth anniversary of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, the minister paid tribute to his contributions to India’s freedom movement and social reforms, including his advocacy against untouchability and his writings during imprisonment.
Bhupendra Patel Highlights Rural Transformation Vision
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel stated that the development works reflect the government’s goal of making the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency a leading development hub in India.
He announced the plantation of 1 crore trees in the constituency to promote environmental conservation and improve ecological balance.
He also highlighted initiatives for digital and cultural literacy, including the establishment of modern libraries in 20 villages with CSR support. Advanced libraries named after literary figures such as Kavi Narmad, Dalpatram, and Govardhanram Tripathi were inaugurated during the event.
Major Infrastructure and Library Expansion Plans
The Chief Minister also mentioned:
- ₹100 crore allocated for the proposed Namo Central Library in Gandhinagar
- Approval of 135 new taluka libraries across Gujarat in the last two years
- Establishment of a new health sub-centre in Jalund village
- Focus on improving Ease of Living in rural areas under the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047
Local Leadership and Public Participation
The event saw participation from Gandhinagar North MLA Smt. Rita Patel, Gandhinagar South MLA Shri Alpesh Thakor, District Panchayat President Shri Rajesh Patel, District Collector Shri Ravindra Khatale, District Development Officer Shri B. J. Patel, along with the Sarpanch of Sonipur and a large number of local citizens.
Officials stated that the development initiatives reflect coordinated efforts between state departments, central support, and local administration.
