BHEL Appoints Asit Gopal as Part-Time Official Director to Strengthen Board Governance and Strategic Oversight

New Delhi: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), India’s premier engineering and manufacturing PSU, announced the appointment of Mr. Asit Gopal as a Part-Time Official (Government Nominee) Director on its Board, effective February 3, 2026. The appointment, communicated by the Ministry of Heavy Industries, has received approval from the BHEL Board and marks a significant addition to the company’s leadership team.

Mr. Asit Gopal: Profile and Career Highlights

Mr. Asit Gopal brings over three decades of diverse experience in public administration, finance, and governance. He is an alumnus of IIT Bombay (B.Tech, Civil Engineering) and holds postgraduate qualifications in Wildlife Management, Public Policy & Management, and an MBA.

His career spans multiple leadership roles in government, including:

  • Additional Secretary (Finance)
  • Director in the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and the Central Vigilance Commission
  • Mission Director of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Madhya Pradesh)
  • Chairman & Managing Director of the National Scheduled Tribe Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC)
  • Commissioner of the National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS)

Currently, Mr. Gopal serves as Special Secretary & Financial Adviser (SS&FA) in the Ministry of Textiles, with additional charge in Food Processing Industries, Development of North Eastern Region, Commerce & Industry, Heavy Industry, and MSME.

Regulatory Compliance and Board Role

In compliance with SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, Mr. Gopal has confirmed that he is not debarred from holding the office of Director by any regulatory authority.

As a Part-Time Official Director, he will play a critical role in enhancing governance, financial oversight, and strategic guidance at BHEL, supporting the PSU in achieving its long-term objectives in the energy, infrastructure, and industrial sectors.
