New Delhi: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has entered into a strategic partnership with thyssenkrupp nucera India Private Limited to support the phased indigenisation and local manufacturing of alkaline electrolyser systems for green hydrogen projects in India.
The collaboration aims to strengthen BHEL’s capabilities in executing green hydrogen projects and support India’s clean energy transition under the National Green Hydrogen Mission and the Make in India initiative.
BHEL and thyssenkrupp nucera India Sign Strategic Agreement for Green Hydrogen Projects
The strategic tie-up will enable the phased development and manufacturing of alkaline electrolyser systems within India.
The agreement was signed by:

The signing ceremony was attended by several senior officials, including Dr. Philipp Ackermann, Ambassador of Germany to India and Bhutan, along with BHEL leadership representatives and other stakeholders.

Partnership to Support India’s Green Hydrogen Mission
The collaboration is expected to play an important role in expanding India’s green hydrogen ecosystem by enabling domestic production of advanced electrolyser systems.
Alkaline electrolysers are a key technology used for producing green hydrogen through water electrolysis powered by renewable energy.
Through this partnership, BHEL aims to combine its engineering, manufacturing, and project execution expertise with thyssenkrupp nucera India’s electrolyser technology capabilities.
Focus on Local Manufacturing Under Make in India Initiative
BHEL stated that the agreement will support the localisation of alkaline electrolyser systems in a phased manner, aligning with the Government of India’s efforts to promote domestic manufacturing.The initiative is expected to reduce dependence on imported clean energy technologies and strengthen India’s capabilities in the emerging green hydrogen sector.The partnership will also help develop a stronger domestic supply chain for hydrogen-related technologies.
BHEL Expands Role in Emerging Clean Energy Sector
With decades of experience across power, transmission, renewable energy, oil and gas, transportation, defence, and aerospace sectors, BHEL has been a key contributor to India’s industrial development.
The company is now leveraging its engineering and manufacturing capabilities to enter emerging clean energy areas, including green hydrogen.
The latest collaboration further strengthens BHEL’s role in supporting India’s transition towards sustainable energy solutions.
Agreement Strengthens Green Hydrogen Project Execution Capabilities
According to BHEL, the strategic partnership will enhance its ability to undertake green hydrogen projects by improving access to advanced electrolyser technology and domestic manufacturing capabilities.
The company said the agreement is focused specifically on alkaline electrolyser systems and does not involve any related-party transaction.
The financial consideration related to the agreement has been kept confidential.
