Patna: Bihar is preparing to introduce artificial intelligence (AI)-focused courses at the undergraduate level across universities in the state, with the proposed curriculum expected to cover all 483 constituent colleges.
The move aims to expose students to emerging technologies and help them develop skills suited to changing requirements in the job market.
Bihar Governor and Chancellor Syed Ata Hasnain has directed the constitution of an expert committee to prepare the framework for the proposed AI curriculum.
AI And Data Science Among Proposed Courses
According to an official from Bihar Lok Bhavan, the proposed curriculum could include courses such as AI and Data Science, Robotics and IoT, BSc-AI and BCA-AI across the state’s constituent colleges.
The expert committee will recommend the structure, subjects and levels at which these courses should be introduced. The proposed framework will also be prepared with reference to courses being offered by reputed professional universities across the country.
Based on the framework, universities are expected to introduce degree-level programmes covering artificial intelligence, machine learning and other related technologies.

AI To Enter Existing Degree Programmes
The proposed changes will not be limited to standalone AI degrees. AI-related content is also being planned for several existing undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
At the undergraduate level, BTech, BCA and BSc programmes are expected to receive greater emphasis on AI-related subjects. At the postgraduate level, MTech programmes are also proposed to incorporate AI-focused curriculum.
The subjects under consideration include:
- Cloud computing
- Data mining and visualisation
- Big data analytics
- Intelligent robotics
- Natural language processing
- Deep learning
- Neural networks
- Introduction to AI
These areas are designed to give students exposure to technologies that are increasingly becoming part of academic, industrial and professional environments.
Curriculum To Focus On Future Job Requirements
The proposed Bihar AI curriculum is also expected to include additional emerging subjects based on future requirements in technology and employment.
Officials said the objective is to help students understand modern technological developments while developing skills relevant to a changing job market.
Rather than restricting AI education to a single specialised degree, the proposed framework seeks to introduce AI-related learning across multiple academic programmes. This could allow students pursuing different streams to gain exposure to areas such as machine learning, analytics, robotics and advanced computing.
Expert Committee To Prepare Final Framework
The expert committee will play a key role in deciding the final structure of the curriculum before its implementation across Bihar’s universities.
Its recommendations are expected to determine which AI-focused subjects should be introduced, the academic levels at which they should be offered and how they can be incorporated into existing degree programmes.
The proposed framework will draw on courses offered by reputed professional universities, while the final curriculum will be decided through the committee’s recommendations.
A Wider Shift Towards Technology-Based Education
The proposed AI-focused courses mark a planned expansion of technology-oriented education across Bihar’s higher education system.
