Patna: Bihar’s five-day Mega Job Fair 2026 has opened with a strong response from job seekers, with 2,972 youths selected on the first day itself. Around 4,500 candidates participated in the opening-day recruitment process at Gyan Bhawan in Patna.
Organised by the Youth, Employment and Skill Development Department, the fair will continue until August 23. More than 100 companies are participating, bringing over 20,000 employment opportunities across sectors such as retail, banking, financial services and insurance.
Government Links Jobs With Global Opportunities
Minister Arun Shankar Prasad inaugurated the job fair along with department secretary Dr Kaushal Kishore. The minister said the government’s focus extends beyond simply providing employment and aims to connect Bihar’s youth with opportunities that can improve their economic prospects and contribution to society.
He said Bihar’s young population has the talent and ability to compete at national as well as international levels when provided with appropriate opportunities and guidance.

Major Companies Recruit at Patna Fair
Several established companies are participating in the recruitment drive, particularly in retail and financial services.
Recruiters include Tata Trent, Croma, V-Mart, DMart, Samsung, Flipkart and BigBasket. Financial-sector companies such as AU Small Finance Bank, SBI Life, Airtel Payments Bank, IndusInd Bank and ICICI Bank are also looking for candidates.
The diversity of participating employers gives candidates opportunities across different job profiles, qualifications and experience levels.
Gulf Countries Also Offer Around 1,000 Jobs
The fair has also expanded its focus beyond domestic employment. Around 1,000 international job opportunities are being offered in Gulf countries through companies including Blue Sheep and Overseas.
These opportunities cover areas such as retail, real estate and other sectors, giving Bihar’s youth a chance to explore careers outside India.
The minister said the department plans to organise employment fairs and mega job camps regularly. A recruitment event held in May had already helped more than 10,000 youths connect with employment opportunities.
Over 1.10 Lakh Youths Linked to Jobs
Prasad said more than 1.10 lakh youths have been connected with employment since November. He credited departmental officials and the wider team for their efforts and called for progress towards the goal of “double employment, double income.”
The focus is also on helping young people access self-employment and skill-development opportunities instead of limiting employment initiatives to conventional recruitment.
DET Portal Records 1.20 Lakh Registrations
Department Secretary Dr Kaushal Kishore said the state has created the DET portal to connect young people with employment and self-employment opportunities. More than 1.20 lakh youths have registered on the portal since November.
The department is also considering online job fairs alongside physical recruitment events. According to the department, this could make it easier for employers and candidates from different locations to connect.
Online recruitment may also help candidates find jobs that match their educational qualifications, interests and skill sets.
Six Employment Events Planned Every Year
The department plans to organise six employment events every year, combining on-ground job fairs with digital recruitment initiatives.
The broader objective is to build a skilled workforce that can compete for opportunities in India and abroad. The government has also stressed continuous skill development so that young people can improve their employability and career prospects.
With thousands of candidates already selected on the first day, the Mega Job Fair 2026 is emerging as a major employment platform for Bihar’s youth, while the participation of international recruiters adds a wider dimension to the state’s efforts to connect its workforce with global opportunities.
