Patna: Bihar has become the first state in the country to provide electricity connections to every household, Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar said. He added that 125 units of electricity are now free for every consumer, with around 90% of families reportedly no longer paying electricity bills. The minister highlighted the move as part of the state’s broader push to improve basic services and rural infrastructure.
125 Units of Free Electricity
Kumar said the Bihar government now provides 125 units of free electricity to every consumer. As a result, around 90% of families no longer need to pay electricity bills, he said.
He credited the Nitish Kumar-led government with expanding electricity access, particularly among poor households.

Water and Rural Infrastructure
The minister also highlighted Har Ghar Nal Ka Jal and Har Gali-Nali Pakkiakaran schemes under Saat Nishchay-3. He said development works under these initiatives began with a focus on Dalit households.
Roads and Drains to Be Upgraded
Under the Har Gali-Nali Pakkiakaran scheme, the government is working to improve streets and drainage infrastructure. Kumar said work under these initiatives has been started with a focus on Dalit households.

Development Works Announced
Several projects were announced for Simri Bakhtiyarpur, including:
- Construction of a boundary wall at Raipura High School
- Installation of paver blocks around the pond near Mateshwar Sthan
- Construction of a rural haat to support local economic activity
- Kumar said the government would continue working to provide better basic facilities to rural residents.
The programme was attended by Disaster Management Minister Ratnesh Sada, MLAs, senior JD(U) and BJP leaders and other NDA workers.
