Champawat: The Uttarakhand government has taken a major step towards implementing Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s vision of developing Champawat as an ‘Adarsh Janpad’ (model district) by approving more than ₹2.62 crore for the installation of modern LED street lights in Champawat Municipal Council areas.
The approval has been granted by Urban Development Section-3 as part of efforts to strengthen urban infrastructure and improve basic civic amenities in the district.
₹262.90 Lakh Approved for LED Street Lighting
According to District Magistrate Manish Kumar, the project has been approved under the “Development of Urban Infrastructure Facilities” head for the financial year 2026-27.
The total estimated cost of the project is ₹262.90 lakh, as assessed by the Technical Appraisal Committee (TAC).
The project will focus on installing modern LED street lights across areas under the Champawat Municipal Council.

₹105.16 Lakh Released as First Instalment
Following the Governor’s approval, the government has released the first instalment to expedite implementation of the project.
The first instalment amounts to 40% of the sanctioned amount, totalling ₹105.160 lakh, or more than ₹1.05 crore.
The release of the initial funds is expected to enable the municipal authorities to begin work on the LED street lighting project.
Funds to Be Transferred to Champawat Municipal Council
District Magistrate Manish Kumar has directed officials to draw the sanctioned funds and immediately transfer the amount electronically to the Champawat Municipal Council.
The directions are aimed at ensuring timely utilisation of the approved funds and accelerating the execution of the infrastructure project.
LED Lighting to Strengthen Urban Infrastructure
The installation of modern LED street lights is expected to improve street lighting infrastructure across Champawat Municipal Council areas.
The initiative forms part of the broader effort to enhance urban amenities and support the development of Champawat in line with the Chief Minister’s ‘Adarsh Janpad Champawat’ vision.
The project, backed by the state government’s financial approval, is expected to provide improved lighting infrastructure for the municipal area.
