Bihar Opens Admissions for Two Minority Residential Schools in Kishanganj and Darbhanga for 2025–26

Applications now open for Class 9 and 11; schools to provide free education to Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, and Parsi students with 75% rural and 50% girls’ reservation

Patna: The Bihar government has officially opened the admission process for two newly established Minority Residential Schools located in Kishanganj and Darbhanga for the academic session 2025–26. The schools will offer education to students from minority communities including Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, and Parsi communities. Applications are being invited for Class 9 and Class 11, covering both Arts and Science streams. The last date to apply is December 30, 2025.

Eligibility and Admission Criteria

For Class 9 admission, the age of applicants must be 16 years, while for Class 11 it must be 18 years. Selection will be based on a merit list prepared according to marks obtained in the school’s entrance examination. Additionally, the maximum permissible annual family income for applicants is capped at ₹6 lakh to ensure access to students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Application Process

Candidates can apply online through the official Minority Welfare Department website www.minoritywelfare.bih.nic.in. After completing the online application, students must download a copy of the submitted form and submit it to the respective District Minority Welfare Office. The entrance exam admit cards will also be available for download from the department’s website. Applicants are required to upload self-attested copies of caste certificate, income certificate, residence proof, educational qualification documents, passport-size photograph, signature, and age proof at the time of applying.

Reservation and Inclusivity

In line with the government’s commitment to inclusivity, 75 percent of the seats in these minority residential schools are reserved for students from rural areas, and 50 percent of the seats are reserved for girls. The schools aim to provide high-quality education in a secure residential environment, supporting overall development and empowerment of minority students in Bihar.

These new institutions mark a significant step by the Bihar government in promoting minority education, ensuring students from marginalized communities have access to quality education and holistic development opportunities.
