Patna: Bihar is strengthening its grassroots startup ecosystem through the TEJAS initiative, bringing young innovators, students, startups and entrepreneurs together in Begusarai and Jamui. The programmes focused on entrepreneurship, incubation, government support and technology-based solutions to real-world challenges.
The initiative operates under the DPIIT’s Startup India framework with support from the Bihar Industries Department. Two major programmes were organised to help young people turn ideas into enterprises and explore opportunities in innovation-driven businesses.
250 Participants Join Innovation Programme in Begusarai
Around 250 students, startups, innovators and aspiring entrepreneurs participated in the TEJAS programme at RRSDCE, Begusarai.
The event included sessions on Startup India, incubation opportunities, government schemes and entrepreneurship. It also gave local entrepreneurs an opportunity to showcase products developed with support from government schemes.
The exhibition featured products from entrepreneurs supported under:
- PMEGP
- PMFME
- Mukhyamantri Udyami Yojana
Products displayed included Naz Textiles, Khushi Honey, Premix Ice Cream, Gaurav Readymade Garments, Mithila Painting and Sikki Art.
The programme provided participants with exposure to government-backed support systems while highlighting businesses emerging from local communities.
260+ Teams Register for TEJAS Hackathon in Jamui
A 24-hour TEJAS India Hackathon at Government Engineering College, Jamui, attracted more than 260 teams from across India. Following the registration process, 30 teams were selected for the final challenge.
Participants from Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and institutions including IIT Patna worked on technology-based solutions to real-life problems.
The competition concluded with Code Crafters securing the first position. Edge Forge finished second, while Quantum Minds secured third place.
The hackathon gave students an opportunity to apply technical knowledge to practical challenges while working in a competitive innovation environment.
Startup Journey Inspires Young Innovators
The programmes also featured an entrepreneur associated with Startup Bihar who works in real-time imaging and AR/VR. The entrepreneur shared experiences from his startup journey and encouraged students to focus on building sustainable ventures.
Such interactions can give aspiring entrepreneurs practical insights into the challenges involved in developing and scaling a startup, beyond what students learn through classroom-based education.
Bihar Focuses on Grassroots Startup Ecosystem
Industries Director Mukul Kumar Gupta said TEJAS is helping young innovators turn ideas into enterprises. The Industries Department is strengthening Bihar’s grassroots startup ecosystem through mentorship, incubation, government support and market linkages.
By taking innovation programmes to districts like Begusarai and Jamui, the initiative aims to expand access to startup opportunities, schemes and entrepreneurial networks beyond major cities.
Connecting Government, Institutions and Entrepreneurs
The two programmes brought government representatives, educational institutions, startups and local entrepreneurs onto a common platform.
The focus on technology-based problem solving through the Jamui hackathon, combined with the entrepreneurship and product showcase in Begusarai, reflects two complementary aspects of Bihar’s startup push: encouraging new ideas and helping existing local enterprises grow.
The initiative also links entrepreneurship with employment generation. As more young people explore startups and technology-led businesses, programmes such as TEJAS can contribute to creating new enterprises and expanding opportunities beyond conventional employment.
For Bihar, the broader objective is to build an ecosystem where young people can access mentorship, funding-related government support, incubation and markets while developing solutions suited to local and wider challenges.
