New Delhi: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), in collaboration with CSIR-Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI), has been recognized by the India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records for developing a first-of-its-kind roadblock section using technical textile geocells made from end-of-life plastic.
Recognition for Innovative Sustainable Infrastructure
The achievement highlights a major milestone in sustainable infrastructure development, showcasing the innovative reuse of difficult-to-manage plastic waste in road construction. The project uses scientifically developed geocell technology to convert plastic waste into durable construction material.

Felicitation Ceremony Held in New Delhi
The recognition was formally presented at CSIR-CRRI in New Delhi in the presence of N. Kalaiselvi, Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and Secretary, DSIR.
Officials from both organisations emphasized that the innovation supports India’s goals of sustainable development and circular economy practices.
