New Delhi: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited’s (BPCL) Gas Business has expanded access to Piped Natural Gas (PNG) in Darbhanga, Bihar, under its #HarGharPahuchenge initiative. The company inaugurated the DCU–DMCH facility and commissioned the first PNG Domestic (PNG-D) connection in Darbhanga City, marking a step towards expanding cleaner cooking fuel access for households in the region.
The inauguration and commissioning ceremony was attended by Hon. MP Gopal Jee Thakur and Hon. MLA Sanjay Saraogi, along with senior district officials and representatives of BPCL’s Territory team.
BPCL Commissions First PNG Domestic Connection in Darbhanga
The first PNG-D connection in Darbhanga City was commissioned as part of BPCL’s efforts to expand the availability of piped natural gas to households.
The event included the ceremonial lighting of the PNG flame at the first customer’s home, marking the beginning of domestic PNG supply in the city.

- District Supply Officer (DSO)

Their presence marked the commissioning of the first domestic PNG connection in Darbhanga City.
PNG Flame Lit at First Customer’s Home
As part of the commissioning ceremony, the PNG flame was ceremonially lit at the home of the first customer.
BPCL representatives also interacted with the customer and collected feedback on the experience. The engagement is part of the company’s effort to understand customer requirements as it expands PNG services to more households.
BPCL Expands Cleaner Energy Access in Eastern Region
With the expansion of PNG services in Darbhanga, BPCL Gas Business is working to increase access to cleaner energy, continuous fuel supply and greater convenience for households across the Eastern Region.
Piped natural gas provides households with a pipeline-based cooking fuel supply, reducing the need for regular cylinder handling and refilling.
The Darbhanga initiative forms part of BPCL’s broader efforts to expand its gas distribution network and bring PNG connections to more households.
#HarGharPahuchenge Initiative
The PNG expansion in Darbhanga is being undertaken under BPCL Gas Business’s #HarGharPahuchenge initiative.
The initiative focuses on increasing the reach of piped natural gas and making cleaner cooking fuel accessible to a larger number of households.
The commissioning of the first PNG-D connection in Darbhanga marks an important step in the expansion of PNG infrastructure in Bihar.
