New Delhi: State-owned NLC India Limited has raised ₹500 crore through the issuance of commercial papers, as the Navratna public-sector enterprise advances its expansion plans across mining, power generation and renewable energy.
The company issued and allotted 10,000 commercial papers with a face value of ₹5 lakh each on September 22, according to a filing with the BSE. The fund-raising comes as NLC India plans to invest ₹1.25 lakh crore by 2030 to expand its overall capacity.
Commercial papers are short-term, unsecured debt instruments issued by companies and institutions to raise funds, generally as an alternative to comparatively costlier sources of financing.
NLC India Raises ₹500 Crore Through Commercial Papers
According to the company’s stock exchange filing, NLC India issued and allotted:
- 10,000 commercial papers
- Face value: ₹5 lakh per commercial paper
- Total amount raised: ₹500 crore
- Date of issue and allotment: September 22
The fund-raising supports NLC India’s broader capacity expansion plans as the company works towards meeting India’s growing electricity requirements while strengthening its mining and clean-energy portfolio.

NLC India Plans ₹1.25 Lakh Crore Investment by 2030
NLC India has outlined an investment plan of ₹1.25 lakh crore by 2030 to expand its capacity across its core businesses.
The company currently has:
- 8,405 MW of installed power-generation capacity
- 59.1 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of mining capacity
The planned investments are aimed at expanding mining operations, modernising the power-generation portfolio and accelerating the company’s transition towards renewable energy.
Mining Capacity to Rise to 104.35 MTPA by 2030
NLC India plans to significantly increase its mining capacity over the coming years.
The company aims to raise its total mining capacity:
- From 59.1 MTPA currently
- To 104.35 MTPA by 2030
- Further to 115.85 MTPA by 2047
The expansion is intended to support India’s growing electricity requirements and help reduce the country’s dependence on imported coal. NLC India is also focusing on responsible mining practices while expanding its mining operations.
Renewable Energy Capacity Target Set at 32.7 GW by 2047
Alongside its mining and conventional power operations, NLC India is accelerating its clean-energy transition through its dedicated renewable-energy subsidiary, NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL).
The company currently has 1.8 GW of operational renewable-energy capacity and plans to expand it substantially.
Its renewable-energy capacity targets include:
- More than 10 GW by 2030
- 32.7 GW by 2047
The expansion is expected to increase the share of clean energy to 50% of NLC India’s overall generation mix, ahead of the previously scheduled target.
Focus on Sustainable Power Generation and Energy Security
NLC India is pursuing a broader strategy that combines expansion of mining capacity with modernisation of its power-generation portfolio and rapid growth in renewable energy.
The company’s long-term plans are focused on supporting India’s increasing electricity demand while improving energy security and reducing reliance on imported coal.
The ₹500 crore commercial paper issuance comes against this wider backdrop of planned investments and capacity expansion across the company’s mining, power and renewable-energy businesses.
