Kochi: Kochi Refinery of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited has been conferred the KMA Excellence Award for Manufacturing Innovation by the Kerala Management Association (KMA). The recognition comes for its innovative PFCCU (Propylene Fractionation and Catalytic Cracking Unit) process modification initiative, which has significantly improved operational performance and sustainability outcomes.

PFCCU Process Innovation Drives Major Efficiency Gains

The award-winning PFCCU modification is being described as a first-of-its-kind operational upgrade in the refinery’s system. The initiative focuses on process optimization and technology-driven improvements to enhance overall refinery efficiency.

According to BPCL Kochi Refinery, the innovation has resulted in:

  • Improved operational efficiency across key refinery units
  • Annual cost savings of approximately ₹32 crore
  • Enhanced energy efficiency in refining operations
  • Reduction of around 29,600 tonnes of CO₂ emissions every year

This demonstrates how engineering innovation can directly contribute to both financial performance and environmental sustainability in large-scale industrial operations.
