New Delhi: In a landmark step towards fostering inclusive economic growth, the Confederation of All India Traders(CAIT), in collaboration with disability-focused organization IDEA, has launched a nationwide entrepreneurship mission aimed at integrating over 50 million differently-abled citizens into India’s business ecosystem.
The initiative was unveiled at a high-profile Ability Conclave held at the Constitution Club of India, marking what stakeholders described as a transformative shift—from viewing differently-abled individuals as welfare beneficiaries to recognizing them as active contributors to India’s economic growth.
Driving Inclusive Growth Through Entrepreneurship
The mission aligns closely with Narendra Modi’s vision of “From Dependence to Empowerment.” It aims to build a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem that promotes innovation, independence, and dignity among differently-abled citizens.
By shifting the narrative, the campaign seeks to highlight their capabilities, creativity, and role in nation-building, reinforcing the idea that inclusion is central to sustainable economic progress.

‘From Job Seekers to Job Creators’: CAIT Leadership Speaks
Launching the initiative, CAIT Secretary General and Member of Parliament Praveen Khandelwal described the programme as a decisive intervention by India’s trading community.
He emphasized that the mission is rooted in two guiding principles:
- “From Dependence to Empowerment”
- “From Mobility to Ability”
According to Khandelwal, the goal is to enable differently-abled individuals to emerge as job creators rather than job seekers, thereby strengthening India’s grassroots economy.
100 Accelerators Programme: A Key Pillar
A major highlight of the initiative is the launch of the “100 Accelerators Programme.” This component will provide structured and targeted support to aspiring entrepreneurs from the differently-abled community.
The programme will include:
- Skill development and training
- Financial assistance
- Market linkages
- Business mentorship
This integrated approach is designed to bridge gaps in access to resources and opportunities, enabling participants to scale sustainable enterprises.
Vision of ‘Divyangjan’ and Inclusive Development
CAIT National President B. C. Bhartia underscored that the term “Divyangjan”, introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reflects a broader societal shift towards dignity, respect, and opportunity.
He noted that the initiative is aligned with the government’s inclusive development mantra: “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas.”

Ability Expo at Bharatiya Vyapar Mahotsav
Further expanding the initiative’s outreach, CAIT announced a dedicated “Ability Expo” to be held during the Bharatiya Vyapar Mahotsav, scheduled in Delhi from August 12 to 15.
The expo will:
- Showcase products and innovations by differently-abled entrepreneurs
- Provide a national platform for visibility and recognition
- Facilitate direct engagement with trade bodies and buyers
- Enable market access and business expansion opportunities
Focus on Digital and Skill-Based Empowerment
The mission also includes plans for a structured national programme focusing on:
- Skill development
- Digital empowerment
- Entrepreneurship training
Participants will be connected with modern trade systems, including:
- E-commerce platforms
- Digital marketing tools
- Advanced production technologies
This approach aims to ensure that differently-abled entrepreneurs are fully integrated into India’s evolving digital economy.
Broad-Based Support from Stakeholders
The Ability Conclave witnessed participation from key stakeholders including Mallikarjun, entrepreneur Ajay Gupta, and several industry representatives, reflecting strong institutional and community backing for the mission.
A Movement Beyond Policy
Describing the initiative as a movement rather than just a programme, Praveen Khandelwal emphasized that the campaign seeks to transform societal attitudes.
He stated that the mission envisions a future where differently-abled citizens advance not through charity, but through equal opportunities, dignity, and rightful participation in India’s growth story.
