Raipur: Chhattisgarh is set to witness a major push in industrial and infrastructure development as the state government moves forward with three large-scale projects aimed at boosting investment, employment, and business activity. These include a ₹400 crore Gems & Jewellery Park in Raipur, a modern Transport City in Bilaspur, and a world-class Convention Centre in Nava Raipur.

The decisions were discussed and approved in a meeting of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Evaluation Committee chaired by Chief Secretary Vikas Sheel.

₹400 Crore Gems & Jewellery Park to Transform Raipur into Major Trading Hub

A state-of-the-art Gems & Jewellery Park will be developed in the Pandri area of Raipur on approximately five acres of land.

  • Project cost: ₹350–₹400 crore
  • Development model: Public-Private Partnership (PPP)
  • Location: Pandri Agricultural Produce Market yard, Raipur

Key Features of the Jewellery Park:

  • Over 500 commercial shops
  • Hallmarking laboratory
  • Gem testing centre
  • Modern showrooms and design units
  • Secure storage facilities
  • Manufacturing and design infrastructure
  • Parking and customer amenities

Officials said the project could position Raipur alongside major jewellery hubs like Mumbai, Surat, and Kolkata, while generating thousands of direct and indirect jobs.

Legal Background of the Jewellery Park Project

The project had earlier faced legal challenges related to land allocation.

  • In 2020, the government allocated mandi land for the project
  • A petition was filed in the High Court challenging the decision
  • The court initially stayed construction but later lifted the stay and dismissed the petition

The state government defended the land allocation under the Chhattisgarh Agricultural Produce Market Act, 1972, stating that similar land transfers had been made for public projects earlier as well.

Bilaspur to Get Modern Transport City to Ease Traffic Pressure

To address rising traffic congestion and unorganized transport activity, Bilaspur will be developed as a modern Transport City.

Planned Facilities:

  • Logistics and warehousing hubs
  • Large-scale parking areas
  • Vehicle repair and service centres
  • Rest facilities for truck drivers
  • Organized freight and transport infrastructure

The project aims to reduce heavy vehicle movement inside city limits and streamline logistics operations, improving urban mobility and efficiency.

Nava Raipur to Host World-Class Convention Centre

A major international-standard Convention Centre will also be developed in Nava Raipur.

Key Purpose:

  • Corporate events and business conferences
  • National and international exhibitions
  • Trade and investment summits
  • Tourism and business networking events

Officials said the project will significantly boost business tourism and help attract domestic and global investors to the state.

PPP Committee Clears Key Infrastructure Push

The projects were reviewed in a high-level meeting of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Evaluation Committee.

  • Chaired by Chief Secretary Vikas Sheel
  • Focus on accelerating industrial and commercial development
  • Emphasis on investment-driven infrastructure growth

The government aims to strengthen private sector participation in large infrastructure projects across the state.

Major Boost to Employment and Investment in Chhattisgarh

According to government officials, the three projects are expected to have a strong economic impact:

  • Jewellery Park will boost retail, manufacturing, and export-related jobs
  • Transport City will improve logistics efficiency and create employment in transport sector
  • Convention Centre will enhance business tourism and global investment inflow

Experts believe these initiatives will position Chhattisgarh as an emerging industrial and commercial hub in central India.

With the approval of major infrastructure projects in Raipur, Bilaspur, and Nava Raipur, the Chhattisgarh government is laying the foundation for long-term economic expansion. These developments are expected to significantly enhance investment opportunities, create employment, and transform the state into a competitive business destination.
