Indore: Indore witnessed a major push toward water conservation as Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav participated in the ‘Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan’ by performing shramdaan at Limbodi Talab. The initiative aims to transform water conservation into a mass public movement across the state.

The Chief Minister also administered a pledge to citizens present at the site, urging them to actively participate in preserving water resources and protecting natural water bodies.

Shramdaan Highlighted as the Core Strength of the Campaign

CM Yadav emphasized that shramdaan (voluntary labour contribution) is the biggest strength of the campaign. He said that when citizens themselves come forward to protect water sources, the initiative becomes a true public movement.

He appealed to social organizations, youth, students, and voluntary groups to actively participate in water conservation efforts, stressing that community involvement is essential for long-term success.

Inspection of Limbodi Talab Conservation Work

During his visit, the Chief Minister inspected ongoing deepening and restoration work at Limbodi Talab. He stated that water conservation is a collective commitment to securing the future.

He further added that government efforts alone are not sufficient to address water scarcity, and active participation from society is equally important for sustainable outcomes.

Over 2 Lakh Water Conservation Works Completed in Madhya Pradesh

CM Yadav highlighted that the campaign was launched in the state on Gudi Padwa in alignment with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for water conservation.

He informed that more than 2 lakh water conservation and rejuvenation projects have already been completed across Madhya Pradesh. These include:

  • Restoration and deepening of ponds
  • Cleaning of rivers
  • Revival of traditional water structures
  • Conservation of wells and stepwells
  • Rainwater harvesting initiatives

Indore Emerging as a Model for Water Conservation

The Chief Minister said that Indore is setting an example in water conservation efforts. In the city, over 10 major ponds and more than 250 wells and stepwells have been restored and preserved.

He noted that these efforts will improve groundwater levels and significantly increase water storage capacity in the region.

Major Projects Under AMRUT 2.0 Scheme

CM Yadav also reviewed ongoing projects under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, including the development and beautification of Bilawali, Limbodi, and Chhota Sirpur lakes.

He said the objective of these projects is not only to rejuvenate water bodies but also to develop them as eco-friendly and tourism-friendly spaces.

Call for Public Participation in Water Conservation Movement

Reiterating his message, the Chief Minister stressed that water conservation can only succeed as a people’s movement. He urged citizens, students, NGOs, and community groups to actively contribute to making the initiative sustainable and impactful.

He said that when society takes ownership of such efforts, the results are more permanent and meaningful.

Tribute to Rani Lakshmibai and Inspiration from History

During the event, CM Yadav also paid tribute to freedom fighter Rani Lakshmibai, stating that her sacrifice for the nation continues to inspire generations to serve the country with pride and courage.

He emphasized that the state government is committed to preserving the legacy of freedom fighters and promoting their ideals among the public.

Historical Significance of Indore Fort Area

The Chief Minister noted that the historic fort area of Indore stands as a witness to India’s rich heritage and the memories of great warriors.

He said preserving such historical sites is essential for keeping cultural identity alive for future generations.
