Ranchi: Ranchi witnessed a major agricultural gathering as Chief Minister Hemant Soren inaugurated the three-day “Jharkhand Agricultural Products and Trade Fair 2026” at the historic Morabadi Ground. The event, scheduled from June 16 to 18, brings together farmers, agricultural scientists, researchers, and stakeholders from across Jharkhand and other parts of India.
The Chief Minister also launched the official logo of the agriculture fair during the inauguration ceremony.
Platform for Farmers, Scientists, and Agricultural Innovation
The agricultural fair showcased a strong convergence of farmers, researchers, and experts, aimed at promoting modern farming techniques and scientific agriculture.
CM Soren emphasized that such fairs serve as an important platform to connect farmers with advanced agricultural practices, technology, and innovation, helping improve productivity and sustainability in farming.
He highlighted that agriculture remains the backbone of India’s economy and continues to play a vital role in rural livelihoods.
Focus on Birsa Green Village Scheme and Rural Development
The Chief Minister highlighted the success of the state’s flagship initiative, the Birsa Green Village Scheme, under which fruit-bearing plantations on barren land are already benefiting farmers.
He noted that agricultural produce from the scheme, including mangoes grown in Simdega, is now being exported internationally, including to London, showcasing Jharkhand’s growing global agricultural footprint.
Major Announcements: Awards, Jobs, and Digital Tools for Farmers
During the event, CM Soren made several key announcements, including:
- Financial assistance for constructing cattle sheds for Tana Bhagats
- Distribution of certificates to progressive farmers
- Appointment letters for veterinary and support staff posts
- Distribution of 209 Digital AI Kits to beneficiaries
He also announced that outstanding farmers will be honored with a “Chief Minister Award” for their contributions to modern agriculture.
Water Conservation and Climate Change Concerns Highlighted
CM Soren expressed concern over climate change and its impact on agriculture. He warned of an upcoming water crisis and stressed the need for groundwater recharge through recharge pits and soak pits.
He urged farmers to adopt water conservation techniques and focus on producing higher yields with less water.
He also emphasized that uncontrolled urbanization and deforestation are harming ecological balance, calling for collective responsibility to protect forests, water bodies, and biodiversity.
Promotion of Organic Farming and Sustainable Agriculture
The Chief Minister strongly advocated for organic farming, urging farmers to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
He warned that excessive chemical use not only harms soil fertility but also poses health risks to consumers, including farmers’ own families.
He stated that the government is working on developing easier access to organic farming solutions and sustainable agricultural practices across the state.
Digital Agriculture Portal and Farmer Support System
To improve farmer support services, CM Soren directed the Agriculture Department to develop a dedicated digital portal where farmers can raise queries, suggestions, and issues.
He said this platform would enable real-time solutions from government departments and agricultural scientists, improving efficiency and responsiveness.
Over 200 Exhibition Stalls and Knowledge Sessions
The three-day fair at Morabadi Ground features around 200 stalls showcasing agricultural innovations, government schemes, and modern farming technologies.
Seminars and workshops are also being organized to help farmers learn about new agricultural methods and innovations. The event aims to strengthen the connection between scientific research and ground-level farming practices.
Shared Responsibility Between Government and Farmers
CM Soren emphasized that agricultural development requires equal participation from both the government and farmers. He said that while the government is committed to providing support and infrastructure, farmers must also adopt modern techniques and sustainable practices.
He added that only through joint efforts can Jharkhand’s agricultural sector be transformed.
