New Delhi: Darla Sunil Kumar, currently serving as Director (Finance) of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), has been entrusted with the additional charge of Director (Finance) at Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL).
This additional responsibility has been assigned following the departure of NCL’s former Director (Finance), Rajneesh Narain, who has joined the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) on June 15.

Darla Sunil Kumar has been serving as Director (Finance) at SECL since July 25, 2024. In this role, he has been responsible for overseeing key financial operations, policy implementation, and financial governance within one of India’s major coal-producing subsidiaries under Coal India Limited.

Before his elevation at SECL, Kumar served as General Manager (Finance) and Head of Department at NCL. His career spans more than 28 years in the finance domain of the coal mining industry.
He has worked across multiple subsidiaries of Coal India Limited, including:
- Central Coalfields Limited (CCL)
- Western Coalfields Limited (WCL)
- Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL)
During his tenure, he has handled various important finance functions at Mines, Area Offices, and Subsidiary Headquarters.
Key Contributions in Finance Operations
Kumar has held several critical responsibilities throughout his career, including:
- Area Finance Manager (AFM) across multiple regions of Western Coalfields Limited, including MP Region, Nagpur & Wardha Valley (Pench, Umrer, Wani Area, and CWS Tadali)
- Leadership roles in Central Accounts, Sales Accounts, Internal Audit, Cost & Budget, and Fund management
- Implementation of cost control measures leading to improved financial performance in operational areas
- Active contribution in strengthening financial discipline and operational efficiency across subsidiaries
During his tenure in CCL, WCL, and NCL, he played a significant role in improving financial systems and supporting profitability through structured cost management initiatives.

While working at NCL, Kumar was instrumental in implementing a Centralized Payment System, which helped:
- Reduce payment processing cycle time
- Improve financial efficiency
- Increase interest income through better fund management
