Mangalagiri: Andhra Pradesh Police have brought laurels to the state by securing an impressive 39 medals in various national-level police sports and professional competitions held across the country. Recognising their achievements, Director General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta, an IPS officer of 1992 batch, felicitated the medal winners at the Andhra Pradesh Police Headquarters in Mangalagiri on Tuesday.
The athletes and police personnel excelled in disciplines including badminton, table tennis, weightlifting, yoga, judo and police duty events, showcasing the sporting excellence and professional capabilities of the Andhra Pradesh Police force on the national stage.
DGP Congratulates Medal Winners
During the interaction with the winning athletes, DGP Harish Kumar Gupta commended their dedication, discipline and hard work, which resulted in an outstanding medal tally at various All India Police competitions.
The DGP said the achievements had significantly enhanced the prestige of Andhra Pradesh Police at the national level and reflected the department’s growing emphasis on physical fitness, sportsmanship and professional excellence.
He encouraged the athletes to continue striving for excellence in future national and international events and assured them of the department’s full support in promoting a strong sporting culture within the police force.
Strong Performance at All India Police Badminton Cluster
One of the highlights of Andhra Pradesh Police’s achievements came at the 2nd All India Police Badminton Cluster 2025-26, organised by Uttar Pradesh Police in Lucknow from May 9 to May 13.
The AP Police contingent secured a total of 10 medals, including:
- 2 Gold Medals
- 2 Silver Medals
- 6 Bronze Medals
The medal tally included impressive performances in both badminton and table tennis events.

Yoga Athletes Dominate at Weightlifting Cluster
At the 3rd All India Police Weightlifting Cluster 2026-27, hosted by Haryana Police at Madhuban from May 23 to May 27, AP Police athletes delivered another remarkable performance.
The team secured 17 medals, comprising:
- 4 Gold Medals
- 12 Silver Medals
- 1 Bronze Medal
Notably, all these medals were won in the Yoga category, underlining Andhra Pradesh Police’s growing strength in fitness and wellness-based sporting disciplines.
The exceptional performance in yoga contributed the largest share to the state’s overall medal tally.
Success at National Police Duty Meet
Apart from sports competitions, Andhra Pradesh Police personnel also excelled in professional policing events.
At the National Police Duty Meet, held in Nagpur between March 29 and April 3, AP Police officers secured:
- 4 Silver Medals
The Police Duty Meet is regarded as one of the most prestigious professional competitions among police forces, testing investigative skills, scientific policing methods and operational expertise.
The medals reflected the department’s professional competence beyond sporting achievements.
AP Police Shine at All India Police Judo Cluster
Further adding to the state’s success, Andhra Pradesh Police athletes performed strongly at the All India Police Judo Cluster held in Jammu & Kashmir.
The contingent secured a total of 8 medals, including:
- 2 Gold Medals
- 2 Silver Medals
- 4 Bronze Medals
The medals were earned in disciplines such as:
- Judo
- Taekwondo
- Karate
- Pencak Silat
The performance highlighted the force’s growing expertise in combat and martial arts disciplines.
Sporting Excellence Enhancing Police Image
Officials noted that the achievements underscore the importance Andhra Pradesh Police places on physical fitness, discipline and holistic development of its personnel.
Sports and professional competitions not only improve individual fitness levels but also foster teamwork, leadership and resilience—qualities essential for effective policing.
The department has been actively encouraging police personnel to participate in national-level competitions and represent the state with distinction.

Addressing the medal winners, Harish Kumar Gupta reiterated the department’s commitment to promoting sports among police personnel.
