Tamilnadu: India’s First Mega Greenfield Shipyard at Thoothukudi is a major step towards strengthening the country’s maritime sector. As per the official report, a landmark MoU has been signed to develop a world-class shipbuilding facility in Tamil Nadu. This project supports India’s long-term goal under Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047 and aims to increase shipbuilding capacity, create jobs, and boost economic growth.

- A tripartite MoU was signed between:
- HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE)
- National Shipbuilding & Heavy Industries Park (NSHIP)
- Sagarmala Finance Corporation Limited (SMFCL)
- Location: Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu
- Planned Capacity:
- Around 2.5 million Gross Tonnage (GT) annually
- Objective:
- Develop India’s first mega greenfield shipyard
