New Delhi: India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the work of Tiranga Mountain Rescue (TMR) while marking 10 years of its service with the Indian Army. Speaking at an event in New Delhi, he said Tiranga Mountain Rescue has become an important force in protecting lives during disasters in difficult Himalayan regions.

The Defence Minister highlighted that national security is not only about border safety, but also about protecting citizens, communities, and the environment.

Rajnath Singh Highlights Importance of Tiranga Mountain Rescue

During the event, Rajnath Singh said that an “empowered India” means:

  • Secure borders
  • Safe citizens
  • Strong local communities
  • Better disaster response systems

He explained that rescue work in Himalayan areas is extremely difficult because of:

  • Heavy snowfall
  • Avalanches
  • Extreme weather
  • Remote terrain

According to the Defence Minister, Tiranga Mountain Rescue has played a major role in helping both the armed forces and civilians in such dangerous conditions.

What is Tiranga Mountain Rescue?

Tiranga Mountain Rescue (TMR) is a high-altitude rescue organization that works closely with the Indian Army and disaster response teams.

Its key responsibilities include:

  • Avalanche rescue operations
  • Mountain rescue missions
  • Disaster relief in Himalayan regions
  • High-altitude survival support
  • Training rescue personnel

The organization has completed 10 years of service and is now considered one of India’s leading avalanche rescue groups.

Event Held in New Delhi

The celebration event was organized at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi. A special photo exhibition titled “A Decade of Silent Service to the Nation” showcased TMR’s rescue operations from the last 10 years.

The exhibition displayed:

  • Rescue missions in snow-covered mountains
  • Relief work during disasters
  • Volunteer efforts
  • Coordination with Indian security forces

Rajnath Singh appreciated the dedication of TMR founder Hemant Sachdeva and the entire rescue team for their commitment to saving lives.

Why Himalayan Rescue Operations Matter

The Himalayas are strategically important for India because they protect the country’s northern borders. However, these regions also face:

  • Frequent avalanches
  • Landslides
  • Earthquakes
  • Harsh winters

Experts believe that specialized rescue organizations like TMR are becoming increasingly important because climate change and extreme weather events are making mountain disasters more common.

Rajnath Singh said the Himalayas are not just mountains but also a “natural shield” for the nation.

Analysis: Growing Focus on Disaster Preparedness

The Defence Minister’s remarks reflect India’s growing focus on:

  • Mountain warfare readiness
  • Civil-military coordination
  • Disaster management
  • High-altitude rescue training

In recent years, India has increased investments in:

  • Border infrastructure
  • Mountain survival training
  • Advanced rescue technology
  • Specialized rescue units

Analysts say organizations like Tiranga Mountain Rescue act as “force multipliers” because they support military and civilian rescue efforts during emergencies.
