New Delhi: The National Lok Adalat 2026 is being organised across India today by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA). The mega legal settlement drive aims to provide fast, affordable, and amicable resolution of disputes while reducing the burden on courts.
According to official information shared by NALSA, a wide range of pending and pre-litigation cases will be taken up during the second National Lok Adalat of 2026.

National Lok Adalat is a people-centric dispute resolution mechanism conducted under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987. It helps settle cases through mutual agreement without lengthy court procedures. Awards passed in Lok Adalats are legally binding and treated as decrees of civil courts.

NALSA Says Lok Adalat Reduces Court Burden
Speaking to Akashvani News, NALSA Member Secretary Sanjeev Pandey said the initiative is aimed at providing amicable settlement of disputes using participatory and people-friendly mechanisms.
He also stated that from 2023 to 2025, around 12 National Lok Adalats were organised across the country and nearly 26 crore cases were disposed of through this system.
Why Lok Adalat is Important
Lok Adalats are considered an important alternative dispute resolution system in India because:
- Cases are settled quickly
- Court fees are not charged
- Previously paid court fees can be refunded after settlement
- Parties avoid long legal battles
- Decisions are final and binding
- The system reduces pressure on courts
The official NALSA website states that Lok Adalat members act as conciliators and encourage both sides to settle disputes peacefully.
