New Delhi: BrahMos missile export is gaining global attention as more countries show interest in buying India’s supersonic cruise missile system. Indonesia has now agreed in principle to procure an additional BrahMos missile battery, making it another major milestone for India’s defence exports.

According to The Hindu report, the growing demand reflects the missile’s proven performance, strategic value, and India’s rising role as a trusted defence partner in the Indo-Pacific.

Details of BrahMos Missile Export

Indonesia has decided to procure an additional battery of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system from India. The agreement strengthens defence cooperation between the two countries and supports Indonesia’s efforts to improve its coastal security and protect its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). BrahMos Missile Export: Why Is BrahMos So Popular

BrahMos is jointly developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyeniya under BrahMos Aerospace. Its popularity comes from several key strengths:

  • Supersonic speed of nearly Mach 3, making interception difficult.
  • High precision against land and sea targets.
  • Launch capability from land, sea, air, and submarines.
  • Proven operational performance with continuous upgrades.
  • Reliable support from India for training and maintenance.

BrahMos Missile Export: Growing Demand in Southeast Asia

The Philippines became the first foreign customer to receive the BrahMos missile system from India. Vietnam has also moved ahead with procurement, while Indonesia has now joined the list. Reports suggest that countries such as Malaysia and several others have also shown interest in evaluating the system for their defence needs.

Boost for India’s Defence Exports

India has been working to increase defence manufacturing under the “Make in India” initiative. The growing number of BrahMos export orders shows that India is becoming a trusted supplier of advanced military technology. Defence exports have increased significantly over the past decade, and BrahMos is now one of India’s flagship defence products.
